What to do with DaRon Bland?

Diggs is burnt toast. Done. Bland needs extended. Drafting a CB or getting one in free agency is paramount. High on the list.

Need more leaves to fall.

The only reason to wait on a player you intend to keep is to see if they stay healthy, but even when that doesn’t happen (Gallup, Steele), they sign them anyway….and not at any discount.

Like always, how much are you willing to risk on him to extend him, because he is still a risk.

I'd let him play out his rookie deal. At let Diggs get another year to show what he can do. If Bland has a great year they can always franchise tag him next year. The franchise tag about for corners is less than for offensive linemen. Of course it could go up next year but this year it is just over $20 million.

Or to see how high the market value will be set so you can TOP it!

He should be ready for this season. Problem is we do not know if that great season he had was a one off or not.

It would be cheaper to extend him now then wait; unless he stinks it up or is average.

This is where the Front Office shows if they know what they are doing or not.

Personally I sign him unless his demands are nuts.

At this point, what's a good contract for him (I was damn near about to make a post off this question I just asked you lol)

I agree but Bland came back and played. I don’t think he is nearly the same level risk either of those two guys were.
He’s not but what salary is he gonna command? I don’t think he can really increase his salary from now until the end of the season. I think he’s looking at a 20 million dollar deal for the next 4 years regardless.

Yeah nothing earth shattering, just the typical increase as the cap goes up again next year so you might save up to 10% on his deal? The big thing would be since his contract is up he would be free to negotiate with 31 other teams as well unless the Cowboys want to tie up a ton of money in the franchise tag to negotiate a LTC with him.

The other thing I look at is how much can he salary really go down? Its one thing if he is a total liability in coverage this season, but I don't see him as that type of player. Even in the case of injury the Cowboys have shown they are not afraid to pay guys.

Just do something. Nobody knows if he'll develop further, get injured more often, stays at the level he's at, or what. Extend him, don't extend him, cut him, whatever. Do you-know-what or get off the pot.

Cowboys, like every other team, has made decisions that turned out from fantastic to abysmal. No way to tell which Bland will end up as.

Cowboys have had the worst luck for decades on players, from Aaron Kyle to Matt Johnson to Jaylon Smith and now probably Diggs. And Jerry's meddling with draft picks and free agent pickups doesn't help. Took a chance on LVE and of course his neck ended his career, e.g.

Just sick of the whole mess...

Diggs makes too many business decisions when it comes to making tackles ,Dallas can't afford to keep a non tackling CB.Sign Bland now and draft one and bring in a free agent ,Dallas is thin at corner back.As far as the front seven goes I like Kenneth Grant and Shemar Stewart in the 1st .
A none tackling frequently injured player - makes zero sense.

Yeah see this is one I take a wait and saw approach on. This front office gets killed for it but with Diggs contract, injury…….i think we need to see more before we overpay.

I dont know man. The kid started showing out from his opening camp. I like the way he plays. I dont know enough about his injury recovery but if it's not a red flag I think I'd lock him down.

The warnings were there before Diggs got extended. They just chose to ignore them. I'm not certain Bland has those red flags.

As always it depends on the contract and guaranteed money.

God forbid he has a GREAT season and the price gets too high when we could have done it now
Impossible......remember that it was the legend of Al Harris that was responsible for Blands "Big Year"

Without Al Harris we don't stand a prayer.

No fan base overhypes a player or coach more than this one.....ironically, no fan base is more unappreciative of a player or coach more than this one

Earth to Cowboys front office: Waiting to extend a good player costs MORE not less.

If you think this guy is worth keeping beyond his rookie deal, get him extended asap. If you don’t think he’s going to be worth it, trade him while he still has value. This is what the teams winning loads of playoff games do.

The team that has won 4 wild card playoff games this century somehow still believes waiting is a good practice. In the NFL, waiting is losing. Either sign him or trade him while he still has value.
