Would like to watch those plays again and see if Fields faked him out. Did seem like he should have had more sacks but he got his in the end.

Listen, Dlaw has been really good this season overall.

But what was he doing on QB contain today?

He is a veteran. He has to know better. He has to contain better.

He needs to fix that

On the plays fans are getting mad about he's being left in no man's land with the quarterback able to either hand off or keep the ball. The design of the play is to block down to the left and leave the end up block so that he has to choose whether to tackle the running back or the quarterback. If he goes for the running back, the quarterback pulls the ball out and takes off. If he goes for the quarterback, the QB hands off and the running back has all kinds of room to run to that side of the field.

That's how the play is designed, to put pressure on the end because he's got to essentially stop two players. The only thing you can hope for as an end in that situation is that you fake out the quarterback. He tried that on Fields' last run. Lawrence dipped toward the running back then bent back to Fields, but Fields is a tough runner to take down when you don't hit him full force.

I wouldn't say faked him out. He just read him. Once Lawrence committed to the back, Fields would pull the ball out and go around him. If Lawrence had committed to Fields, then you leave the ball in the back's gut and let him run to that same side of the field with the offense walling off the rest of the line and linebackers.

His angles were horrific. All he has
To do is stay outside and at least make
Fields run up the middle and not untouched around the side for 15 yards.

He can't stay outside or Fields hands the ball off and the back goes between Lawrence and the line wall. That is the design of the play. It's tough to stop unless you know it's coming and get a second defender on that right side to play the QB while Lawrence takes the back (or vice versa).

It's not that. DLaw has to contain the outside. Let fields run inside if need be. Don't let him escape to the outside. DLaw took bad routes to the QB.

He wasn't taking a route to the QB. He was taking a route to the RB and then trying to adjust when the QB keeps the ball.

Some of you would be upset with him if he just went after the QB or played contain to the outside and the RB took off into the hole between Lawrence and the wall. He's got to play the back even if it leaves Fields with room to run.

What we needed to do is read those plays better. We either needed to have someone from the secondary come up to play the QB or a second defender shift over or loop around the end to play the run or the QB. Maybe we'll learn from this because we'll see more of it from Philly.
