Apparently you don’t understand football, understand what a rush lane is, or understand that asking him to contain the edge doesn’t mean necessarily making the play on fields but rather forcing him inside where he has more help.

You also don’t apparently know that DE’s still have contain responsibilities even in plays where there is a spying LB or safety.

He didn’t even attempt to contain the edge on multiple plays today which you would know if you watched and understood what you were watching.

You also apparently don’t know the difference between an RPO and a read option either.

He got juked by someone must faster!!!

Demarcus Ware would never have fallen for that.

(Cough). RG3

The plays where Fields got around him were not RPO though. DLaw needed to come under control and stay outside of Fields. Instead he tried to go full bore to get a sack and opened the door.

The next instance was after we went up 42-23 on Parsons' fumble return. Fields faked the handoff and Lawrence was squeezing down the line to get the back, which left Fields with lots of room to run. Fortunately, they were called for holding on the outside. Not sure what Lawrence's responsibility was on that play. If someone else was responsible for Fields or if he needed to stay outside to take the QB. It was a similar type play to the TD, though, where he was in a no-win situation. If he chases the QB and it's a handoff, you get the TD. Now, if he'd guessed right on the keeper, he might have been able to bury Fields like he did on the two-point try.

On the last play where Fields got around him, Lawrence should have been playing Fields, but went for the play fake. In this case, we did loop a lineman (Gallimore) around the block-left wall, so he would have been there if Fields had handed off the ball. Lawrence didn't have anyone outside of him, so he needed to maintain contain. But it didn't have anything to do with going full bore for the sack. He was trying to play the run and just didn't make a good decision.

felt this was a good game to test how to defend a running QB who can hand off to RB while faking keeper

With success would have felt better re rematch vs Philly & Hurts

Yeah, we got burned on it too much in this one. Chicago is the top running team, so it was a tough test, but we didn't pass it. We won, but we need to figure out how to better defend the two-way.

I'll take Unrealistic Expectations for $1000
What is unrealistic about expecting a DE to do his job. Force the play inside.

Making the excuse Fields is a great athlete is a lame excuse from someone who knows nothing about football.

he is far and away our best run defender.
do you realize he is our best run defender?
He was a terrible run defender on a couple plays! He did not break down and force Fields inside. Do you realize his job is to force the QB inside?

Anyone that has coached understands you can not play perfect defense every play. There will always be gaps the offense will be exploit. Want to slam the breaks on up the middle runs? Welp, a QB like Fields or a game plan like the Eagles will take advantage of the edges. Can't do everything every play.

a couple of plays does not change that.
