Fired Landry and Hired Johnson, what were u thinkkng about Jerry Jones...

I was happy with a new coach, mad at jerry for not offering Landry a front office position, but been a Cowboy fan I always roll with the Franchise and not the player, coach or anyone else.

I loved Landry, but honestly felt it was long past time for him to step down. I was absolutely pumped about Jimmy coming to Dallas, so I was never one of those who was upset about Landry being removed.

Maybe Jerry could have handled the actual firing in a better manner, but he would have been criticized no matter what he said or did.

You can't criticize a new owner of a business for wanting to put his people in positions of leadership. That's just the way it is and Landry, Brandt and Tex weren't above it happening to them.

I thought a man who is paying that kind of money to buy a football team deserves to name his own coach. As for being mad, I was made at Bum Bright for not telling Tom what was going on and allow Tom to step down. Instead Bum took the money and left Jerry with the dirty work of replacing a Dallas icon.

I have always put my team the Cowboys before any coach or player.

With one exception, Tom Landry.

Yes his time was over and Jimmy brought us 3 championships (I give him credit for Barry's)...

As far as Jerry firing Tom... I can forgive but never forget is a saying I use a lot, but I cannot forgive the firing of Landry. Tom would have stepped down and I would have waited, no matter how long.

At the risk of losing the HC you wanted? Had Jerry demoted Tom I don't think that would have made anyone happy and he clearly could not have had Johnson waiting around. Bum Bright was Tom's boss and as such screwed Landry over. JMO

The only real problem I have with the Landry situation was how it was done. I can not fault Bum Bright for selling the team. I can not fault Jerry for wanting to pick his own guys to sink or swim with.

I can hold Jerry, Jimmy and whom ever else might have been in on the idea to fire Tom over the air waives. That was straight out Bull **** and Tom Landry deserved better then that.

I was thinking it wasn't done right but it was time for a change. However, I expected very little out of Jimmy.

I thought it was the end of the Cowboys. Just like I thought it was a mistake to draft Irvin (because he blew out his knee) and draft a certain rb out of Florida that had broken his foot the year before.

I thought Jerry Jones was the best thing to happen to Dallas in a long time.

From the mind-set that Landry was untouchable.

I knew even then that Johnson would be an upgrade to the miserable so-so seasons that Landry was putting up. Atter the first season I was wondering about the upgrade thing, but knew there would be the necessary rebuilding.

As far as the "could have been handled better" firing, I find it ironic that the man who put out to pasture so many legends or waived younger ones without so much as a wave of the hand would bellyache that "it could have been handled better."
What's better than a golf course? A sterile office? Out on the practice field? A cocktail party? And the word during that time was that Landry was proving hard to find, flying around the state, zigzaggin around town.
When Jones got word he was at the golf course, the action was set in motion.

Also, the first year Jimma went to the Super Bowl, Landry was interviewed and was asked if he would attend or watch the game. Landry said he'd be too busy to view the game. hmmmmmm.

:D

When Landry was good he was very good. LWhen he was on the descent he was just bland, predictable and boring. And bad.

Jerry did not fire Landry over the air waves. I don't think Jerry or Jimmy had any control of the media releasing the story. That was what happened. The story leaked out before Jerry ever got to meet with Landry. If anything, Bright should have had Tex and Tom in the meetings with Jerry when the team was sold. Bright owed Schramm and Landry that much.

There is a small debate as to who the worst coach in Cowboys history may be. There is not doubt that Bum is the worst owner.

I disagree. Landyr's offensses were not bland and boring. There was not much talent on them. I wasn't bored watching Herschel Walker play at a high level and Landry finding different ways to get him the ball.

Landry and Tex just failed at drafting quality replacements for their fading stars. They used to have a knack for finding talent and in the mid-80s lost that. On the field though, Landry still managed to get something out of the little talent. It wasn't enough to win games, but it was more than I imagine some other coaches would get. Landry would have gotten alot out of Aikman, Smith and Irvin in the early 90s.

I'm sorry Josee, I can't agree on this one. The story leaked but details of that story should never have been shared with anybody other then Jerry and Bum IMO. There was no reason to have discussions with Jimmy leaked or anything else for that matter. Once Bum sold the team, he should have called Tex and Coach Landry but he didn't. That's on him but the fact that Jerry bought the team and hired Jimmy should never have been made public until Jerry had spoken with Coach Landry. I don't care how long it took, that discussion should have taken place prior to anything else IMO.

It wasn't details that were leaked as much as speculation when Jimmy was spotted in Dallas with Jerry. The media put 2 and 2 together.

I don't think Jerry did everything right when it comes down to it. A small thing here or there could have changed the outcome, but he also did not go out of his way to intentionally insult Landry. Somethings just can't be controlled.

That's kinda my point. Jimmy should never have been in Dallas to begin with and that is on Jerry.

I was mad as Hell when Jerry let Landry go the way he did. I have no problem with any owner firing anyone, but this guy Landry was/is the DALLAS COWBOYS and he deserved much better than he got from a hillbilly owner. I never like Jimmy either for taking over for TOM.. as a coach and to show respect for the Cowboys, he should have told JJ he would wait until Landry was informed and given a chance to step down.

I know Jimmy brought in some Championships here,, and I watched every game and cheered for everyone of them. But I will never Like Jones or Jimmy for what they did to Landry.
