What was missed in the near Romo injury

From my point of view Free looked terrible last night. He seemed to get beat often IMO. Speed Rush or inside move. Just didn't appear to have any power. Not sure if his technique was off or not. He was also flagged for a holding call.

Green looked much better than the last 2 games, he's starting to round into the player I watched I. FLA (Gator fan here). It wouldn't surprise me at some point if Green moves into the starting lineup if Free struggles. He isn't a spring chicken anymore.

Green got sloppy again late after looking decent early. He needs better consistency if he's going to start.

Is that Doug Free continues to look like a liability in pass pro.

This guy is the biggest red flag on our offense. Looking back the replay you see Ezekiel Elliott visibly upset, but if you watch the whole play develop, it wasn't Zeke who got beat out, he actually had a great block. It was Free who got beat completely around the end and allows the rusher to circle completely around to Romo.

On what is a stellar offensive line, this guy is a major blight. Wish we had moved Collins to Right Tackle and kept Leary in there at Left Guard. Maybe that wasn't feasible, but I wish we had been able to get Free out of the starting lineup.
Free didn't get beat. What's he suppose to do? tackle the guy? He ran the guy around the pocket. Romo just didn't see him.

I guess you don't have Twitter?

Romo was out the pocket, he needs to have better awareness.

I love we'll ignore that Free totally kicked Bennett's butt also.

And on the sack, the rusher was clearly had his hands in Free's helmet.

Speaking of non calls: anybody see the obvious hold on Wilson's TD pass to Lockett? How did they miss that!
Yup, hands to the face and no call.

Nice pickup by Zeke. That's a positive.

Awkward and late slide by Romo.
I realize that was very fluky play, but I blame Romo there.
Great hustle play by Avril as well

Guess people forget that Seattle has a pretty good defense, and will get to the QB on occasion.

The old whipping boy Doug Free is back I see.
Can we at least not pretend that Chas Green has not been terrible.
People are upset that Free directed his man outside on a play and they will overlooking the many many plays we have seen from Chas Green where he has been beaten like a rented mule or flagged.

If Chas Green replaces Free this year then crap has really gotten bad.
for the record its Chaz

Yep - tell you what else we missed. Romo's back took a major, weird twisting hit - and he's going to be fine.

I think all the doom and gloom is misdirected. It think he's got a lot of confidence from a hit like that.

How about Romo just learn to throw the ball away instead of running for two yards and risking injury?

Where should he throw it? When he had time to throw it (all of 1 second) he was in the pocket, nobody to throw to. If he throws it then it's intentional grounding. He could have tried to throw it away while scrambling, but with a guy bearing down behind him that's a great chance for a fumble, then everyone is crying about protecting the football.

Free is very good in run blocking and he's good in pass protection but he's not as athletic as Smitty. He does whiff on some speedier DE's making that turn around him.

I do not fault him on that play but a QB taking a risk in a meaningless game against one of the best front 7's in the game. Maybe that hit will teach him the value of living to make another play because if he loses his job, he may not get it back. That play alone tells me he's learned nothing about protecting himself and he is an injury waiting to happen.

Free barely even touched the DE, he just got in his way enough to make him run a little further - at full speed. In order to hold a block you have to actually BLOCK someone. Had Free blocked his guy at all Romo would have had time to slide.

I just got a chance to finally watch the game this morning..and as I assumed..many people overreacting to the play of Free here.

Look, we have a very good OL..maybe the best in the league..and Free is a solid contributor to that. Everyone on the OL can't be an all pro..but he does his job more than not.

On this play he did what you see OTs do all the time. If the DE wants to take off 10 yards up the field..you basically don't even have to touch them to block that play..you just escort them up the field because they are running themselves out of the play. Had the rest of the play not broken down and Tony has thrown a pass instead of trying to run away with it..it would have been fine. When the play breaks down like that it's extremely tough to block then because no one knows where the qb is looking to run and avril came back from 10 yards up the field to bring him down from behind. Hardly something to blame Free for..even though I know it's easy for some fans to go..who's man was that?? Damnit Free!!

He could have tossed it out of bounds or if he catches a grounding penalty, who cares? His job #1 is keeping himself able to lead his team. I don't think he heard the footsteps coming at him from the defender; it's those of the backup he's hearing. He showed that on the sideline trying to get back in. Maybe that scared him enough to not take risks, especially in a pretend game?

And it can still be called for intentional grounding unless you are outside the tackle box. Not to mention that we're talking all of 4 seconds from the snap to the slide. Our offense will have so much success if Romo starts dropping back and immediately throwing the ball out of bounds the first time he makes a read and the guy isn't open.

You guys act like he hasn't bought time and made plays before. He's not Eli, he's not going to throw it at the ground at the first sign of a rush. We don't run the Giants offense where the ball has to come out in 2 seconds or less. Yes, he could get down and try to avoid the sack, but how did that work against Washington in 14?
He's a QB, he's going to get hit, he's going to try to make plays. And you honestly think he was trying to get back in because he's afraid of Dak playing? You might have missed it, but he generally tries to come back in because he's a naturally competitive person.

Free is decent in pass protection nothing special, but he is darn good at run blocking. That's his strength , overall he's an above average lineman. Lol I mean come on the rest of our lineman are basically pro bowlers, Collins is only going to get better

No argument about his competitiveness but I do feel Dak's presence put additional pressure on him. It is that competitive level that drives him. Romo is that older leader of the pride when the younger male shows up. Not saying he's not a team guy because he is but it's just human nature and he's feeling challenged for the first time in his career. And the challenge continues to grow.

If Williams doesn't let that pass hit him in the body, Dak gets another Wow completion and the legend continues to grow. If I was Garrett, I would put Williams on notice. The ball hits your body, you hit the bench. He continues to ignore pass catching 101.
