Avril had his hand in free's face mask and his head pushed way back. Bad missed call.
The Officals are used to missing calls on Seattle's defense. If they called every flag on Seattle's defense the game would grind down, so they don't.

This wasn't a negative post, fix that doom and gloom loom larger here! lol jk

Oh, I know. It wasn't directed at the post but the fandom in general. No doubt our hearts were in our throats, and of course, we are going to get threads saying we're done, he should retire, etc. When I was younger I would've freaked out and probably posted the same thing, but now I just looked at it differently. If Tony could take a twisting hit like that, I think his back is a lot better this year than last.

What I do want to see from him though is to start throwing the ball away. Not because of the play last night necessarily, but overall, it just doesn't buy us anythng to exten a play when we are trying to extend the season.

I had a dog that crossed the street just one too many times into his old age. I am sure he could have evaded the car in his younger car dodging days. Just one step lost on a run he'd been successful on hundreds of times before.

I thought of him last night.

Against better defenses the Cowboys will give Free some help if they're smart. Hopefully Green can supplant him at some point but the Cowboys need to get some depth going at offensive tackle,,, starting now.

Free was terrible on that play but he's solid overall. Like someone said, we are just spoiled by the others we have around him on that line. A lot of teams would be interested if we dangled him for a trade.

Romo has to be more aware than that, though. He has to know there is someone most likely breathing down his neck from behind. And for a preseason game, just get rid of the ball or fall down. What he did was not needed give the circumstances.

I know a lot of people gripe and make fun of him when he sees a blitz he has no chance to get away from and just falls down. Peyton did the same thing at the end of his career. I do not mind this at all.

Nice pickup by Zeke. That's a positive.

Awkward and late slide by Romo.
I realize that was very fluky play, but I blame Romo there.
Great hustle play by Avril as well

that is true I am pretty sure if Brady was hit like that, fluke or not, would have been a flag and an ejection ;)

Romo admitted after the game that he would have liked to have thrown the ball away. What's interesting to me is that he actually had some space in the pocket to step up, but he freaked out when he saw a linebacker blitzing. Too bad Romo isn't used to Elliott's blocking because he took care of that guy pretty easily. Having Elliot block back there is like having a blocking tight end back there. He really might be the best blocking running back ever.

Exactly. Surprised there hasn't been more talk of this. It was close and I would have forgiven some contact but the defender followed through to maximize the contact. That's a penalty every time if it happens to a golden boy.

Is that Doug Free continues to look like a liability in pass pro.

This guy is the biggest red flag on our offense. Looking back the replay you see Ezekiel Elliott visibly upset, but if you watch the whole play develop, it wasn't Zeke who got beat out, he actually had a great block. It was Free who got beat completely around the end and allows the rusher to circle completely around to Romo.

On what is a stellar offensive line, this guy is a major blight. Wish we had moved Collins to Right Tackle and kept Leary in there at Left Guard. Maybe that wasn't feasible, but I wish we had been able to get Free out of the starting lineup.

You cant expect a guy to block for 5 seconds. Romo just got hit and crumpled with his back. He is just brittle and old. Dak got hit much worse then that several times and he bounced right up.

Yep, hes like a scared kid now. Just throw the ball away. Its not in his nature. Ive seen Dak do it.

From my point of view Free looked terrible last night. He seemed to get beat often IMO. Speed Rush or inside move. Just didn't appear to have any power. Not sure if his technique was off or not. He was also flagged for a holding call.

Green looked much better than the last 2 games, he's starting to round into the player I watched I. FLA (Gator fan here). It wouldn't surprise me at some point if Green moves into the starting lineup if Free struggles. He isn't a spring chicken anymore.

You have to be joking me with Green. Free is a 8 year pro and Green is two games removed from the worst showing in the history of football. You think Free looked bad Green looks far worse. If we need that cat to play Romo is toast.

I wouldn't say he did it because he was scared. That was his first time seeing Elliot in pass protection in a live game, it makes sense that he doesn't have that much trust in Zeke yet. I think Romo was just trying to make a play, but then realized its preseason and he should let up, leading to the slow awkward slide crunching his back.

OK.................well, I will take your word over some others simply because you watched him there and are a Gator. So explain to me why he was a part time player on the line.

But none the less I see him struggle big time with speed.

Fair enough. I just think he is brittle and old.

Free sucks! He will be the worst starter on the entire team this season.

They should rotate Free and Green at RT to start the season. I hoped they would move Collins to RT and use Leary at LG, but that didn't happen. Green might have some struggles but at least he has a chance to improve; whereas, Free has no chance to improve.

Sometimes the Cowboys get attached to certain players like Nick Hayden and Doug Free.

maybe it's Free's age, but his effort isnt mid season form. that can get a QB, RB even WR hit.
Green though not as "good", easily gives more effort. i dont know if that would have saved Romo from that hit but the line needs to block like their mom's life depends on it when Romo is in.

Throw it out of bounds.. ;)
if there is one major thing about Romo's game is his refusal to throw it away out of bounds. I think the fact he was the main focal point for so long and he gets it into his head that he has to make something from nothing or his team loses creeps back in.

I think its the foot and ankle injuries, best case scenario he needs to gain confidence in his feet, worst case scenario he ends his career in Dallas how he started it, a swing tackle.

Let's just be happy that he didn't have his obligatory per game false start. I think.
