What was worse: 3-13 and 1-15 or 3 5-11 seasons

Reading Mickey's "Cowboys Come A Long Way, Baby" article got me thinking just how far we really have come. IMO those days or teams were just horrendous! The gloom over the entire franchise was numbing to say the least and IMO they were much harder to take than Landry's last season or Jimmy's 1st season.

Which of these two eras was worse for you?

Three straight at 5-11 was far worse for me. I respected both coaches in 1988 and 1989.

3 straight 5-11 was by far the worst for me!

the other two season (1-15 and 3-13) were bad, however 5-11 for 3 straight seasons is silly bad....boy has this team come a far way!

As dismal as the 1-15 season was, there was hope there. A rookie QB showing tons of promise despite getting hammered on a weekly basis. And a wide receiver who looked like he could turn in to something.

Those 5-11 Dave Campo years just seemed like a never-ending back hole.

I believe the 15 wins from '00 to '02 were the lowest in the entire NFL during those 3 years... someone correct me if I'm wrong.

The 1988 season was the absolute worst for me of any other single year. I loved Tom Landry, and yet that season made want him to just retire. I was affected more by losing my faith in him than I was by the losing record. As a previous poster said, the 1989 season was bad but at least there was hope.

In my 30 years of watching the Cowboys (which is small compared to a lot of the guys here in the forum) but I'd say the three 5-11 seasons were the worst of my times. I just remember thinking that that drought would never end...

I tell you what though, it sure makes the current Cowboys team feel that much sweeter. Watching 13-3 Tony Romo and crew lose in the playoffs is a heck of lot better than watching Chad Hutchinson, Quincy Carter, Ryan Leaf, Clint Stoerner, Anthony Wright, Troy Aikman, and Randall Cunningham (whew, that was a mouthful) blow those 3 seasons down the drain with no playoff hopes at all.

Besides the Superbowl wins being the best, the 1-15 season is one I actually relish. I mean to only win a single game all season, and that one win be to completely embarrass the Commanders (because they were the only team to lose to us) was sweet!

I would think going 18-0 and losing the Superbowl would be worse than any of those. At least I hope it is. :D :D

It depends on if you also consider the end-result. Just taking the seasons mentioned without the knowledge of what the future held, I would go with the 3-13 and 1-15 seasons, hands down. I think winning those Superbowls make people forget just how bad those two seasons were and the numbing feeling of Landry's firing. I remember that Johnson had the team firing on all cylinders in the Preseason his first year, then Dallas got whipped by New Orleans in the first regular season game and it only got worse. Two really ugly seasons.

13-3 and then one and done in the post-season at home to a team you beat twice in the regular season. That's the worst!!!:banghead:

1-15 wasn't bad, because I knew what they were doing. 3-13 was a little frustrating.

But, three 5-11 seasons stands for mediocracy; and that's something that the Cowboys have never stood for.

Just like some say "a loss is a loss"... whether you lose by 1 or 38pts. You can only lose one game once. So... as far as losing seasons... they all resulted in ZERO.

It doesnt matter to me.... the 5-11 seasons were like watching the same movie over and over... kinda spaced out for a few years.... but we beat the Skins.::D

You're wrong.

Try Cincinnati (12 wins) and Detroit (14 wins)
