What will Jason's offense look like? And who in the heck is Brian Stewart?

P.T. Barnum was right.

Actually, the quote that PT Barnum has been so widely credited with coming up with... "There's a sucker born every minute"... wasn't first said by him.

It was actually first said by David Hannum, a banker from Syracuse, NY. However, because of a chain of events surrounding a supposedly ancient fossilized giant called "The Cardiff Giant" (the fossil was said to have been found in Cardiff, NY), Barnum was eventually credited with the saying.

David Hannum had purchased a fraud fossilized giant (although he and most people thought it was real) and PT Barnum... having been unable to purchase the "real" fossil himself, had one created by a crew of workers. Barnum then proclaimed that he had indeed bought the original from Hannum and that the one the NY banker had on display was a fake. Hannum of course had the original... but it still happened to be a fraud as well.

Barnum then had people lining up to see his "true" fossilized giant and Hannum, still thinking he had an original told the press (in regards to the people lining up to see Barnum's giant) that, "There's a sucker born every minute."

Hannum later sued Barnum but when the truth came out that the "original" fossil that Hannum had was actually a fake as well... the Judge threw the case out of court.

Hannum then slipped out of the public eye and into near oblivion in the history books, while Barnum stayed in the publics conciousness and so has since been credited with the famous saying.

Here is the link if you want to read the whole story. kind of interesting I suppose.

Here is a link to a picture of the fake "Giant fossil" that was created by one of PT Barnum's competitors.

Sorry to Hijack the thread... but that quote is incorrectly attributed to PT Barnum a lot.

Hopefully it will invovle a power running game with a strong OL.

We need to get back to our glory days off muscling opponets and burn them with the vertical passing game.

I'm hoping that we go back to an offense that more willing to go to the pass early in the game. It seemed that we would burn a lot of plays generating runs of 1, 2 or 3 yards in order to try to establish a running game while the other team was concentrating more on putting points on the board.

Then in the 2nd half our offense would start to open up...

I think we put Romo is a ridiculous amount of 3rd and long situations.... I don't care what the stats say, our running game yielded small yards at the wrong times, not when we needed it on first and second down.

I don't really remember any other qb last season who was able to get so many first downs on passing from 3rd and long other than romo and brady.

I hope that Romo isn't going to be put in those situations again.

I 100% agree with everything you are saying here. We really did end up in a ton of 3rd and longs. Plus Romo did get us a ton of first downs out of those situations, too. So many in fact, that I kind of began to expect Romo to complete the pass to get the first down when it was 3rd and long.

Frankly, had Romo not gotten us out of so many of those third and longs... I think our record would have been much worse. We definately don't need any 1 yard runs on first or second down, that's for sure.

If we put Romo in a bunch of third and shorts this season, I think it is really going to be a good year.

Where did that come from? I don't recall Jones ever having any say on our offensive philosophy since he bought the team.

From the 50,000-watt hammer for justice, truth, the supreme truth and water sports, some questions about the offense. Next up, Farmers Branch Go-Khart Update and Doris Connor's Coffee Hour.

Mens and boys, I wonder what Jason Garrett's offense will look like. Like Jerry's? Like Wade's? Like his own?
As a QB, his inclination would be the passing game, but it is likey he has come around to a balanced attack.

Still, a blitzkrieg game from Romo to Witten/T.O./Glenn/Crayton might look tempting to him. (My guess is that Garrett is no dummy and will use Witten more than T.O. and Glenn.

Anybody care to guess what Garrett's offense will look like? How he will play the RBs? How much leeway will he give to T.O.? Whether he will play Witten more?

And will he be his own man or will Jerra or Wade play a part in the offensive philosophy?

And has anybody heard anything about Brian Stewart, the defensive coordinator?
I vaguely recall his name.

All these discussions of how Wade will skew his game and almost no one raises Garrett's or Stewart's name.
:starspin :starspin :starspin :starspin :starspin

My guess is his offense will look a lot like Norv Turner's :)

Garrett's strength as a QB was the long ball which he threw better than Aikman, so I'm expecting his instincts to have him wanting to go downtown.

I think Aikman threw a better long ball than Jason by far. I don't confuse Aikman with Elway or Stabler. But he was better than Jason. JMO.

Aikman didnt excel at throwing the deep ball. I cant speak for Garrett's proficiency based on the two or three games he actually saw time but Troy just wasnt very good at it.

40 yards on a rope? One of the best all time.

its amazing the revisionist history practiced by some

the "bomb" is the least accurate pass of any of any throw..the further you throw it down field, the less accurate it will be, thus a lower completion %. When Norv Turner was our OC (and then for a few yrs Ernie Zampese) no team threw the ball deep downfield more than we did...for all the crying over the ones Aikman missed, seems you guys have misplaced all the one's he DID complete in stride to Irvin, Harper, Ismail or whomever

The Cowboys did not have the vertical "passing game" a-la the Oakland Raiders of the late 60's/early 70's but was much more focused around 15 to 20 yard patterns, which Troy truly excelled at.
