Just for grins I started thinking about what things would need to happen in order for this team to win the next Super Bowl...

For some of you it may be a certain numbers the team needs to achieve or certain stats particular players needs to reach. For others it may be an issue of total team health. I don't think there are any bad answers. Here are mine:

The defense gives up less than 4.0 yards per rush.
The offense averages 4.0 yards or better per rush.
Drew Bledsoe has a TD/Int ratio of 1.7 to 1.
Mike V has a successful FG % of 80%.
The defense gets 40 sacks or more.
Bledsoe, Ware, Adams, TO, Newman, Roy, Ferguson, Witten can not miss time due to injury.

Those are my keys... what are yours?

For Parcells to have an aggressive game plan and play to win rather than playing "not to lose".

Oh, and no major injuries.

I guess mine would have to be:
defense allow zero points all yr
make the playoffs
win all of our playoff games
and win the superbowl game...

but seriously,
I think the OL can't give up 30 sacks, i think we gave up 39 last year...?
I think JJ needs 1500 yds

the OL needs to solidify.

Our two RB's need to combine for ATLEAST 1500 yds, but preferably 2000 yds

TO needs to keep his mouth shut.

Glenn, Roy, TNew, Henry, Ferguson, Ware, Witten, OL, Bledsoe, JJ can't get injuries. (JJ's injury might be ok.)

TO should get 1000+ yards, and Glenn should get 800+ yards. Combine for about 2000 yards.

4.0+ yds per rush on offense

more sacks on defense

less sacks on offense

less than 3.5 yds per rush on defense

crack down on their #1 WR, make them beat us with their #2/#3

bledsoe needs to think before he throws

we need to create alot of turnovers on defense, along with confusing offensive lines.

I guess just others teams, special teams and defense will have to score. :D

Bledsoe was sacked around 50 times.

Offense -

Average time of possession in the mid-30 minute range per game
Low turnover ratio
3rd Down conversion rate around 50%

Defense -

High takeaway rate
Average holding opponents' offenses to 17 or less points per game
Low penalty ratio

Special teams -

Dictate the opponent's average starting field position around the 15-yard line
Average our starting field position in the 30 - 40 yard range
Average punts in the 43 - 45 yard range

Do that and we don't have to rely on a kicker so much. We all know we lost a few games to a missed kick but we put ourselves in that position. I don't want to "hang around" this year, I want to take it to them.

I agree with MW's numbers but I'd up the yards per rush to 5.0 and the sack total 45+ cause we have guys to do it and we have the rotation to keep them fresh.
There's only one position we need for our QB and that would be prone. We do this and we're golden.

I think this team needs a steady pass rush that generates 50 sacks this year.

We need to be at least +10 in the turnover department.

We need to win the starting field position battle on Special Teams.

Drew Bledsoe needs to remain upright.

1. Stay relatively injury-free
2. Be among the top teams in turnover differential
3. More efficient running the ball
4. Perform each week, since talent on paper isn't enough
5. Luck (need it to get to the top of the mountain)

That one wouldn't be mine. There is essentially no correlation between the team averaging 4.0 ypc on a Parcells coached team and their level of success.

If this team were coached by Tom Landry, I'd be far more inclined to agree with this metric.

David.

Winning enough games to get into the playoffs and then winning all of our playoff games to get into the Superbowl and then winning that game.

Note: I would say and play better than the other team in the Superbowl but that didn't work for the Seahawks in the last one.

Stat trivia.

As far as teams playing in the last five Super Bowls, not one averaged over 5.0 per rush:

2001 - Rams (4.9), Patriots (3.8)
2002 - Raiders (4.3), Buccaneers (3.8)
2003 - Panthers (4.0), Patriots (3.4)
2004 - Patriots (4.1), Eagles (4.4)
2005 - Seahawks (4.7), Steelers (4.0)

Only two playoff teams have done so during that span:

2003 - Packers (5.0)
2004 - Falcons (5.1)

Sacks ranged between 40 - 50:

2001 - Rams (45), Patriots (41)
2002 - Raiders (43), Buccaneers (43)
2003 - Panthers (40), Patriots (41)
2004 - Patriots (45), Eagles (47)
2005 - Seahawks (50), Steelers (47)

There were only a few 50+ sack clubs in the playoffs:

2001 - Steelers (55), Packers (52)
2002 - Eagles (56), Steelers (50)

that's what I would add to Michael's list, BP values winning the turnover battle more than anyone, creating more turnovers on D and giving up less on O would be ideal, and we'll win alot of football games

scoring alot helps too ;) good point

even playing close to the vest or not, you're going to need a kicker such as Vandy on your team, there is no real seperation between the NFL's elite teams, so when you get 2 real good teams together, the game is going to be tight more times than not

but I agree, BP needs to open it up a little, or alot, but alas, that may never happen as long as BP is coaching
