What would it be to franchise Murray?

Would Adrian Petersons salary number count if he is released at the end of the season? This would be a huge factor because with Petersons numbers franchising Murray would cost around $9 million and without his salary involved it would cost around $6 million. Anyone with any knowledge on the situation?

I would assume we will know before the end of the season what they intend to do with AP. I dont want to spend that money on murray either way.

Believe it is the five largest salaries at the offered players' position at the end of restricted free agency. So you are talking 9.31M as opposed to 10.73. I don't see the tag being used on anyone other than Dez though.

Yeah its a huge number AP or not. I dont see how $6 mil is a possibility.

It would only add to the detriment of an over priced contract we already have on the books as it is and thereby limiting our ability to sign a great deal of our best players going fwd. He's going to command somewhere between $3-$7million per year as it stands, franchising him would probably cost a bit more...

Good question because Peterson gets paid a lot more than the next highest RB and would drive the franchise tag price up a few million.

They now include salaries from the previous 5 years in the calculation of the franchise tag.

Romo's days as a QB is numbered. We have already found a solution at runningback. My philosophy is not to fix that which isn't broken. Its really funny to see people try and get rid of him because their assuming he's going to want big money. How do they know that?

Our main priority is to get him signed for reasonable contract that won't break the bank and to fix our defense. The defense needs more attention this off season. Not trying to rid of Murray because he cost too much.

Is the solution at running back a commitment to running behind a great zone blocking oline? If so, yes they have found a solution.

I think there's way too much belief that a good Cowboy running back is going to be as productive for as long as Tony Dorsett and Emmitt Smith.

And that simply isn't the case.

Backs burn out quickly.

Look at the top 5 rushers for the past four seasons...

2013
McCoy
Forte
Charles
Morris
Peterson

2012
Peterson
Morris
Lynch
Charles
Martin

2011
Jones-Drew
Rice
Turner
McCoy
Foster

2010
Foster
Charles
Turner
Johnson
Jones-Drew

And it's very possible at this point that only Morris repeats on this list for three seasons in a row.

I wouldn't be surprised that Murray, considering his injury history (often) and his running style (encourages contact) is burnt out by the 2017 season... Maybe even by the 2016 season.

His agent will want big money because he has produced and the agent is paid based off percentages. There is no home town discount in the NFL. I don't see them paying Murray 6-7 million per year after MBIII took JJ to the cleaners.

I offer Murray a decent, team friendly contract...if he declines, let him go and draft another RB in the 4th or 5th round next spring...then, let him, Ryan Williams, Dunbar, and Randle battle it out during training camp...best man wins and will succeed behind our awesome OLine...I have no interest in AP...

Well it depends also how good of a salesmen Jerry really is. We finally to have some other benefits in playing for Dallas such as great coaches, dominant Oline and a potent offense. All we need is a defense that can stop people and were on our way. Sometimes money is not the determining factor people sign a contract. Look at Darren Sproles. His contract was small compared to what he could have got elsewhere.

I think it's safe to say we know Murray's number going into this season because we made it clear we were going to let him test the market after it. And Stephen said as much when he said that Murray was expecting to have a big year this year in relation to the team's extension discussions with him. You never know, but I imagine his expectations are going to go up based off of his success so far this season rather than down because he likes playing here so much.

I"m all for extending him if we can get a deal that works for us. I just don't think that's very likely, at all. I think he's gone and we're going to have to find somebody in the first three rounds who can take his place.

I do hope we work it out. Murray when his not hurt has been very productive even without a good oline. Yes we have to learn from our mistakes from giving MBIII big money. On the flipside Romo's window of opportunity is closing. Do we take the chance of letting him walk and having to scramble to find a replacement? I don't think its that easy to plugin in someone and expect the same result. Otherwise, we would have seen a lot more Randle by now.
