What would it be to franchise Murray?

I do hope we work it out. Murray when his not hurt has been very productive even without a good oline. Yes we have to learn from our mistakes from giving MBIII big money. On the flipside Romo's window of opportunity is closing. Do we take the chance of letting him walk and having to scramble to find a replacement? I don't think its that easy to plugin in someone and expect the same result. Otherwise, we would have seen a lot more Randle by now.

The primary reason we haven't seen more Randle right now is that Murray's also so good in pass blocking. Frankly, I think that's the best thing Murray gives us that another good back (one who'd be available in the top three rounds of the draft might not).

By way of illustrating that point, I heard on Talking Cowboys on Friday that just Murray's yards-before-contact would put him with the third-highest rushing total in the league this season. Joseph Randle is also outperforming him in terms of ypc right now (admittedly on very few carries). As I said, I like Murray a lot, and I especially like the kind of person he seems to be, but I'm pretty comfortable with our ability to replace him adequately if we have to next season, too. I'd have him as a lower priority than McClain and Dez, for sure, and maybe lower than Carter and Harris, to be honest. In the meantime, I'd ride him as hard as we can between now and the end of his season, whenever that may be.

Barring an injury interfering with Murray's worth, renegotiating a new contract for him will most likely be way too costly. I'm thinking there's a fairly strong likelihood Murray won't be a Cowboy any longer in 2015. Look to the draft for his replacement to be found. Whoever takes his place should really enjoy running behind our OL.
