What would the real cost of change run?

So all the Cowboys need is a cornerback like Josh Norman, linebackers like Luke Kuechly and Thomas Davis, pass-rushers like Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware and a combination pass-rusher/run-stopper like Derek Wolfe.

So, just talking contract costs. Just what would signing that group cost the Cowboys for this season?

How much could be acquired via a single draft as well? One or two draft picks worth?

you are correct they need better players they couldn't afford those players under the cap.

This question makes me dizzy.

This is what we need:

Our biggest issue on defense is our depth. Our guys play too damn much. There's no question those boys are tired as hell out there come 3rd and 4th qtr. We need 1 more edge rusher and we really need to look at the interior line. Like you said guys like wolfe and Jackson would be huge upgrades over what we have.

Our second biggest need is secondary. We need some real safeties and at least 1 other corner for depth assuming Scandrick comes back strong.

So our draft and free agent signings have to be on point this year.

Wolfe - ave salary ($9,175,000)
Ware - ave salary ($10,000,000)
Miller - ave salary ($5,250,095)
Kuechly - ave salary ($12,360,313)
Davis - ave salary ($9,000,000)
Norman - rookie contract ($1,591,750 this year)

Both Miller and Norman will get significant increases in their salaries for this past season...

Miller should get $10,000,000+
Norman should reach $7,000,000 - $9,000,000

Doing some quick math, that group should only cost you: a little over $70,000,000

Free Agency? Quickly through the draft?

Our major issues are

1) poor team culture because of Jerry/Jason

2) really really bad coaching because of Jerry/Jason

3) less talent (a DISTANT 3rd)

I think that if they keep loading up on the DL and get a more consistent pass rush, a lot of their defensive problems would be alleviated.

If we go 2 deep on the DL, with adequate backups across the line, we could have a really good defense - even with just an average secondary who just took proper angles and tackled efficiently. We don't have to be stacked across the board to be successful.

You asked for the "real cost of a change" and I gave you my opinion

Signing big salary FA is not going to bring "real change"

Don't ask a question you don't want answered

Lawrence is comparable to Ware at this point. Lee is a very good WSLB. Drafting Myles Jack to be MLB would be financially cheap. So we'd have to come up with about 30-35 million to get 3 more high impact defenders. We actually have the cap space if we want .

This is what I saw for SB50.

An aging QB, weak arm, can't throw deep, never could accurately, with a bum foot and tingly throwing hand. Mobile, he's not.

A young QB whom........if you get in his head he regresses. Crawls into himself, picks up all his toys and goes home. Can't really read a defense all that great either. Cam has some growing up to do.

My outtake was....... while these defenses were outstanding, the QB play for both teams made both defenses look better.

Before we go throwing all our eggs in the defense, defense, defense basket I think what we witnessed was a semi- anomaly.

JMO, of course.

If I had to guess,

Norman should command 13-15 mil per year for the next 4-5 years as a top tier corner who just turned 28.
MIller should get 15-16 mil per year for the next 5-6 years as a top DE/34 olb who is only 26.

Norman, who returned two of his four interceptions for touchdowns, turned down an extension prior to the season that would have paid him more than $7 million a year. He likely will demand $10 million to $14 million annually with a new deal. The Panthers are expected to place their franchise tender on Norman if no deal is reached with him in the next month, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. Even with the cap number for each team expected to top $150 million, the Panthers will have to make salary cap adjustments in other places to keep Norman.

The Panthers destroyed one of the most potent offenses in the league .

The Broncos destroyed: Cam Newton ( mvp), Brady ( hof) Rodgers (hof and Big Ben to name a few.

What you saw was the 2 best defensive teams in the NFL and it was far far far from being an anomaly. Let's not forget what Panthers defense did to our vaunted oline and our savior Tony Romo. Give respect where respect is due.

Denver? Seriously?

Pats and the Packers have average Olines, at best. Patriots line is a giant patch job. Please. Name more.

Destroyed Pittsburgh? Wrong. You didn't see the game. Go check out the final score.

Yah, I totally disrespected the defenses.

My post was 'IMO' and commenting on the nuances of the game. It's what I saw.

Living in CO I get the "Pleasure" of seeing all the Denver games.

The defense hadn't looked that good, against a mobile QB, all season.

Cam helped that.

In Denver's case, yeah. I could agree. Their OL was the weak spot coming into the season.

However Cam has the ability to move, and normally does that well but I think he panicked.

One thing I will add is,I was most impressed with the coaching staff (Panthers) for the season's success. These guys did their homework. Every game it seemed.

I was almost shocked that they really didn't change the game plan even with Cam failing miserably. They had a couple things that worked but went away from that for whatever reason.

Kinda tells me they're limited in what they can do with him in his young career.

I don't completely agree with 1. I think Jason has done some things to fix the culture.

2) I completely agree with. Jason Garrett is an awful coach and one of the worst I've ever seen at putting strategies together before games or on the fly.

3. We always need more talent. Especially with the way we our coached.

It isn't just the salary cap, it is the opportunity to even sign top players.

Guys like those on DEN rarely become available at the same time. That is why it would be smart to re-sign Hardy.

Draft a DT, sign a mid-level CB and draft or sign a FS like Weddle or Gipson.

If QB is gone at 4, Myles Jack is a great option for MIKE

The talent on the Cowboys defense is questionable at best. The best player on the D would be lucky to be considered the 3rd or 4th best player on Denver or Carolina's D.
