I'd walk out with the knowledge that the employer had the right to not hire me based on my action.

What if they asked for the keys to your home as well? I assume you're not hiding anything there either, so it shouldn't be a problem. :laugh2:
I'd ask them to come in the home with me just like I'd ask them to let me log in and log out.

We're definitely living in ridiculous times.
The best response would be to ask how comfortable he/she is with reciprocating? In the absence of a Facebook account if he/she doesn't have one, the particulars of accessing his/her own personal email.

How else can I tell if the person hiring me is qualified to be snooping about in my own personal business?

haha yeah! Respond with, "You first!" :laugh2:

This isn't to the extreme as a Jeff Ireland question, but I believe it is in the same ballpark of stuff that doesn't need to be asked by an interviewer. I have nothing to hide or am ashamed of on my Facebook account. I would not walk out of the interview. Instead I would politely decline their request or as Hostile suggested offer to log in myself. Perhaps I would even ask them to send a friend request, so they can view the site at a time after the interview.

I do not have a Facebook page nor have I ever had one. That being said, I think anyone saying they would give a potential employer (or anyone really) access to their Facebook account is not being considerate or respectful of everyone you have friended on Facebook. You are not just giving away access to your own personal information but that of your friends, family, etc. without their permission.

I read an article a while back that said most of the Fortune 500 companies research the online activities of potential employees before hiring them. Surprisingly, they put a special focus on the types of friends you have in various social networks. To assess those relationships means they will access the profiles of your friends and families and view their private information.

It is reasons like this that I am glad I do not use Facebook.

Fantastic! Now just some fluid samples from you and your family and we'll be out of your hair. Are those pictures of your kids? Cute kids, when do they get home? We'd like samples from them as well, and possibly their friends. You can never be too safe! :laugh2:

At what point is it too much?

On the spot, I'd have refused. Having time to think about it, I'd refuse on the grounds that giving it to them would expose the company because my FB account contains personal information about my age/health information/orientation that an employer is not allowed to ask for in a job interview.

I wouldn't walk out, but I would weigh the request in considering my employment with the company if they ended up making me an offer. Under no circumstances would I give them my password or allow them to review my account. And I have nothing to hide, either.

this is what i was getting after. how i feel politically can often be said in our random postings.

and as reality said - i now open up all my friends to their prying eyes also.

i simply do not understand how they can legally even think of doing this.

An employer is not allowed to know your age? Really? How many applications have you filled out that didn't ask for DOB.

Really? I have never experienced that ever in my life.

I would simply say No. Most employers track our IT movement anyway, but I'm not going to give them my password to access those activities.

Unless I "friend" you, then you can see what everybody else who's NOT a "friend" sees. My name, my education, and my current employment.

It is entirely too much, but I don't care. Is it okay with you if I don't care? Do you need me to care? Would that make you happier?

Okay, I care. Damn them.
