What would you do?

It is entirely too much, but I don't care. Is it okay with you if I don't care? Do you need me to care? Would that make you happier?

Okay, I care. Damn them.

HELL NO. It's the "principality" of the situation. It's a word now.

I think it's a privacy issue. I saw this on FB and I don't think this will be legal much longer, if it is at all right now.

I have nothing to hide. I would ask to log in myself, then ask to be allowed to log out.

The problem with the having nothing to hide argument is that it is subject to abuse. The fuzz says this all the time, if you have nothing to hide, come talk to us, tell us your story.

Employer can say sorry not hiring you because you won't let us peer into your deepest secrets but still, why would anyone do that? Gee they get wasted on weekends, OMG.

Like I said, I get why people don't like this, but I don't care. I don't drink. I don't get high. I don't associate with known criminals. You've seen my Facebook page. Other than the Wise Old Cowboy stuff what are they going to discover? That I like the Cowboys? Oh my gosh. To me it would be amusing that they even want to go there. I wouldn't do it as a company owner, but I just don't care.

So tired of hearing "if you have nothing to hide it shouldn't bother you" when it comes to ever increasing infringements on personal space and privacy. It's not a question of having a need to "hide" something; it's a question of wanting to keep somethings to myself!!

I'll chalk this up as another reason I always enjoyed being self-employed!!

I would look them in the eye and say. The last time that camel stuck its nose under my tent. I shot it.

Personally, as a company owner I would never ask. As someone wanting a job it wouldn't bother me too much. I understand why it would bother others, but I just wouldn't care. Doesn't make me right and you wrong or vice versa. It is my personal feeling. I have nothing to hide so I would not care. It would amuse me more than anything.

Just the one question needed. Are you a Commander or Eagles fan?

This crosses a fine line in my opinion. It is like asking if you are republican or democrat during an interview or other personal views that have no impact on your ability to perform your job.

My profile is public cause I am really boring and dont care who sees it, but that is a personal choice. When it comes to your personal life, you should still have that option in my opinion. It is no different than them asking to see what is in the trunk of your car or what is in your medicine cabinet.

I dont blame him for saying no, and he is probably lucky he found out in advance what type of company they are. Lord knows what else they expect out of their employees. Life is too short to put up crap like that.

Amen to that statement. More and more our individual rights are getting trampled on for what is in "our best interest" and because if we have nothing to hide than it shouldnt matter.

I do not do FaceBook or any other sort of social drama page like FaceBook. However, I do understand that it is a very popular media forum. I see both sides to be honest. I absolutely understand why most would not want to give up that sort of info. Makes perfect sense. On the other hand, more and more people are using things like facebook to slander companies and employees. You have no control over facebook and it's a problem for companies.

Asking for someone's facebook account login/password is the same as asking for someone's email login/password. The latter would never be considered appropriate especially considering the private thoughts and comments that friends, family, etc. may have sent you thinking it was just for your eyes. To treat facebook or any private social network service any different is flawed.

I don't think it has anything to do with having anything to hide. I think it has to do with your personal space being invaded by your company. I just wonder where it would stop for this company? If I'm out at a casino, would they view that at bad?

I wouldn't have an issue with it at all.

As an employer, I can learn more about a potential employee in five minutes reading facebook or message board posts than I can in an hour interview.

Yes, it has nothing to do with whether or not you could perform the job, but everyone in the stack of applications that I interview could do the job or I wouldn't bother to interview them.

That's not the type of attitude we like at No Privacy Incorporated, I'm not sure you're right for our company after all but I'll help myself to a sandwich from your fridge on my way out.

You are the only person I know that will get up on a mountain top to shout "I don't care!" then when people look up and raise an eyebrow, you'll look down from your mighty perch and glibly ask why they are looking at you.

Agreed.

And even if you had nothing to hide, why not just tell the person that you can make your facebook page public (instead of private) so they can go in and look.

No need to have them have your username and password at all to view your facebook page.
