What would you guys consider a "choke" in the playoffs?

I don't think losing to the Lions would have to be a choke job. But if they get blown out, yeah. Detroit's an 11 win team with a salty defense.

This team has an extremely hard road through the playoffs if they want to go to the Super Bowl. At Lambeau against the Packers and probably at Seattle against the Seahawks. That is tough. I think they can do it but it will be one tough haul.

Good thing we are the best road team in the NFL. 8-0 holla...... also already beat Seattle in Seattle

Reading other NFL forums and looking through my Facebook feed, I have noticed many opposing fans saying that the Cowboys would choke in the playoffs. This has started me wondering what exactly a choke would constitute for these Cowboys.

Many of us and most of the media pundits, thought this team would regress from last year's 8-8. You look at the team going into the season and you saw a defense that lost Ware and Hatcher. Then Sean Lee in the preseason. You also looked at Romo's back situation and wondered how he could possibly be good enough to put enough points on the board to make up for what looked to be a horrible defense.

This team played well above most of our expectations. Most of the media had them at 7-9 or worse. Looking at what many of us predicted and what has come into reality, what do you consider to be a choke in the playoffs? How can a team that everyone expected to have a losing season but, in reality, had 12 wins, choke?
For those people, any loss will be construed as a choke.
For me, if we get blown out by Detroit, I would consider that a choke, anything better I consider progress toward the ultimate goal.

What sucks is the Packers have a week to rest Rodgers. That's big. I'd love to play them this week in Green Bay in the divisional round.

A potential Cowboys/Packers matchup got me thinking.

If Cole Beasley was a Packer would he be able to do the Lambeau leap?

It's not a choke-job unless the team just fails to get up for an opponent and loses big. If they play hard and they're competitive and they still lose, sometimes that happens. Every team they face the rest of the way is a good team, and Dallas certainly has flaws to be exploited.

Anything shy of a Super Bowl win will be a choke to most non-Cowboys fans and even some of the Romo bashers among us, because they're idiots.

Personally, I need to see at least one playoff win and a respectable performance thereafter to consider it a non-choke. A loss this Sunday would be humiliating and would really fuel the fire for the haters.

Please define "choke". These days, if the team loses or Romo throws a pick, they/he "choked". Getting beat by a better team or getting picked because of a good defensive play doesn't exist...only "choking" exists. To me a "choke" happens when something bad happens completely because the person/team fails because of the size of the moment and not because of anything the opponent did to cause that failure. This team may lose, but I highly doubt that it will be because they "choked".

They could get to the SB and lose and everyone will talk about how Romo and the Cowboys choked. They are all waiting to say, "see I told you".

And THAT is the position that Jerry and Garrett and Romo have put themselves in.

Just win!

Enough is enough!

Win and ***** 'em all!!

Failure to advance to the NFC title game. It's been 19 years.

Since 1996, the Cowboys, Lions and Commanders are the only teams in the NFC to not make it to the conference championship game.

Ditto.

I don't see the team choking, not even with a loss. Every team in the playoffs has a very good O or D or both.
We also know that despite some improvement, our defense is still the Achilles Heel for this team, so if a good offense lights them up, that's not a choke.

The only way I would call a loss in round one vs the Lions or in any round a choke is if the offense doesn't perform, scores fewer than 24 points in a loss, or if Murray fumbled a game away or Tony threw multiple interceptions that look foolish like his int vs Washington--those I would label as chokes.

Agree. Very akin to being a wild card team, with the exception we get one game at home.

I'm not even considering a loss. All I see is two Detroit losses two years in a row to avenge. One where we blew a big lead.

Agree. I think this is exactly what JG will be focusing on this week, besides the " execute & finish" mantra

When a plethora of fans start saying "We beat ourselves", then you'll know it was a choke job.
