What would you guys consider a "choke" in the playoffs?

I guess 31 teams choke each year trying to get to the Super Bowl and winning it. If we don't win the SB the haters will always say we choked.

Exactly right - what the hell is a choke? Is it a loss, is it who you lose to, how you lost?

I mean depending not the criteria the Patriots have been choking for ten years now.

Reading other NFL forums and looking through my Facebook feed, I have noticed many opposing fans saying that the Cowboys would choke in the playoffs. This has started me wondering what exactly a choke would constitute for these Cowboys.

Many of us and most of the media pundits, thought this team would regress from last year's 8-8. You look at the team going into the season and you saw a defense that lost Ware and Hatcher. Then Sean Lee in the preseason. You also looked at Romo's back situation and wondered how he could possibly be good enough to put enough points on the board to make up for what looked to be a horrible defense.

This team played well above most of our expectations. Most of the media had them at 7-9 or worse. Looking at what many of us predicted and what has come into reality, what do you consider to be a choke in the playoffs? How can a team that everyone expected to have a losing season but, in reality, had 12 wins, choke?

I would not consider a loss even in the wild card game a choke.

A choke to me would be more the way we play (lose) a game. Even if we win and play bad/stupid/error prone football i'd consider it a choke.

My expectations for this team is to advance to the SB final.

To not beat Detroit (without Suh) would be very depressing.
Green Bay isnt that good. Rodgers is hurt. If we play solid ball we should win this game. Bad weather plays to our favor.
I dont think Seattle is really that much improved from our first meeting. It will be the most challenging game but we are able to beat them.

Everything less then advancing to the SB final would be a dissapointment for me.

To me it would be playing poorly against the Lions after having a dominant December.

Detroit is 12-4.
I do think Dallas will pull it out, however....

Other than maybe early in the year vs Seattle, this is the best defense this team has faced all year...so don't expect 30-40 points unless Stafford turns it over a lot.
The Detroit offense is very capable as well, but seems to be underachieving to some degree.

So I would strongly predict that Murray will not rush for a huge 150 yards and Romo will not have an insane QB rating of 112 (hopefully at least around 90 though)
In the playoffs, you play better teams, so the stats usually take a hit.

A strong outing would be
80 yards and a TD for Murray
240 yards, 2 TDs, 1 int for Romo
80 yards and 1 TD for Dez
another TD somewhere else

that should be good enough for the win

If any of those guys play way worse than that in a loss, or if the line gives up a ton of sacks, or if baily misses a couple of FGs, or if the defense allows Detroit to score way more than their average, or special teams gives up a blocked punt or kickoff return for TD...etc...
Those could all be chokes to varying degrees.

Anything other then a superbowl win. Is a choke. they are playing the best football in the NFL. keep it moving and get it done.

Failure to advance to the NFC title game. It's been 19 years.

Since 1996, the Cowboys, Lions and Commanders are the only teams in the NFC to not make it to the conference championship game.

This^^^

And the whole "we exceeded expectations so anything else is gravy" garbage I've been reading in here is bullcrap! We are here and we don't know when we will return, make the most of it, I'm greedy!!

If they play poorly or stupidly and lose to Detroit at home.

Anything past that is gravy

You have to win your home playoff game as division champs, anything after that is house money.........................especially considering Suh just got suspended, no reason to lose to the Lions.

So losing to Detroit in the first round at home would be a choke job in my opinion.

Beat the Lions and go to Lambeau and be competitive with golden boy Rogers and I think you can call it a successful season...............losing to Green Bay is nothing to hang your head about as long as its competitive (within 10 points)

Obviously a first round loss would be a choke. If we reach the NFCG I don't care what happens after that because it's all HOUSE MONEY
