When the pre-season with all its hype and predictions ended, we as fans and the Cowboys sports media all pointed out the many strengths of this team coupled with the areas of the team where we are vulnerable. This is a very talented football team. But, like all NFL teams, it does have problems.

In my view the three biggest vulnerabilities and question marks about this team showed up yesterday:
  1. The OL depth is a concern- we all knew go into the season that Tyron Smith is a ticking time bomb for an injury. Then Tyler Biadz went down and Zack Martin too. Suddenly having 3 backup lineman for one game was a problem. Edoga looked awful at LT. Apparently Tyler Smith’s ham is still too tender to allow him to play LT. We all have loved TJ Bass and his UFA story. But he’s still very raw with a lot to learn.
  2. The inability to stop the run has dogged this team for years- are we back to this being a problem? This team gave up 185 yards in the first half! And our LBs looked out position or easily blocked by the cards most of the day. I don’t think we’re as bad against the run as we saw yesterday but it has been a problem for so long, it does make you wonder.
  3. This team has been mentally soft for most of the last 27 years, regardless of coaches. For far too long, the Cowboys have been soft. Especially mentally. Adversity strikes and this team stumbles. Not 100% of the time of course, but far too often.
It’s a long season and we still have 14 games left. No need to push any panic buttons. But the above problems are not a surprise. This team’s ability to improve in those areas will say a lot about our chances of post season success.

The offense as a whole is a huge problem, not just the missing lineman. All 3 played last week and they still had trouble getting the ball in the end zone. What was it, 4 FG's last week? 3 more this week?

Coaching and lack of discipline has not changed, until that does you will continue to see posts and losses like this

This team stumbles when it experiences success. They can't handle it. They eat the cheese every time. But what do you expect, when you have an owner who mouths off about Super Bowls, before the season even starts?

This team - like all the others before it - are not built for a championship.

Physically and mentally.

I didn’t think the backup offensive linemen performed that badly. Certainly not enough to be the reason why this team lost.

Even Edoga - and I’ve been an outspoken critic - was acceptable at left tackle. And I don’t think people can still question why they kept Brock Hoffman.

LVE is bad. He looks slow, out of position too often, and lacking instincts. I don’t know what’s happened to him since his rookie year.

My biggest issue aside from the overall defensive performance is with the quarterback.

On a day where he and the offense needed to carry the team, he failed.

We will see next Sunday if that was a temporary setback or cyclical trend. The Patriots record is not indicative of the team they are. They will test the Cowboys and apply a heavy dose of a motivated Zeke.
This isn't against you personally just a good opportunity to ask this question.

Why is our opponents always get the Team X record is not indicatived of who they are as a team, but ours seems to always be the polar opposite inany fans minds?

1. Depth is fine. The team basically had their 2nd string offensive line out there. That's not an depth issue. One thing to have 1 starter out. They had 3 out. Of course the line wasn't going to be great, but it wasn't as bad as it could of been.
2. They've done some steps to help it but Hankins is a shell of his prime and Mazi is a raw rookie. The linebacker they have are lacking and the team has always tried to push this position into the later rounds to find a diamond in the rough. Of course finding a 3 down LB that can shed the blocks is a rarity these days too. But rolling with LVE and some raw rooks will have this type of showing at times.
3. I agree. IMO it's the main issue that plagues this team. They eat the cheese every year

on point #1, OL depth was a concern, but man, missing 3 OL men was hard to overcome. we did it first two weeks when we replaced one or two, but then 3 is majority and two of them were UDFAs (depth issue). one of them a rookie.

not sure why we moved Edoga to LT (he is a guard) and not Asim Richards who did pretty well his first week.

The only thing relevant from yesterday is that this team's stupid insistence to run the ball on first down is handicapping anything else they want to do. It also reinforces the complete stupidity of "complimentary football" and is the embodiment of why you never try to play that control the ball, play defense style to win a game 20-13.

Maybe it’s more time for alarm than we think.

How big is Pats game now?

If we stumble to 2-2 and then head to SF. Is 2-3 Alarm time? Just saying..

I’d argue this is a HUGE game early now . It shouldn’t have been but it is now .

I thought the oline played much better in the second half. The play calling a decision making from #4 are my biggest concerns offensively.

Defensively we just didn’t show up. And the need for a fast, tackling LB is clear as day and must be addressed or teams will continue to gash us in the running game. Wonder if Arizona would entertain a trade for Kyzir White? That dude was all over the field making plays. He’s just the type of LB this defense needs.
