What's everyone think about the book Boys Will be Boys?

Just starting reading this book and I never heard some of the claims made and figured folks here would have some strong opinions, so what's the consensus? Is the book accurate or bull?

Ps..I tried to do a search for a previous thread but I guess I'm not too good with the search function, so mods please move if there is already an existing thread.

I really enjoyed it. I communicate with Pearlman every now and then, he has even juicier stories that he couldn't print.

As much as I loved the team of the 90's to me it was sad how it all came to an end. When Dallas should have been celebrating the last SB victory instead we had to deal with the legal battles that confronted Irvin, the story of the white house broke and then Mark Tuinie dies from an OD.

Given the events that were taking place was the main reason I never faulted Jerry on passing on Moss. All the things with Irvin, Lett, Eric Williams and then Tunie played a big part in not selecting Randy Moss and the image he had coming out of college.

Jerruh really had no choice. Moss was trouble and we would have been pounded again and again if we had taken him. Honestly I really doubt we would have won any more rings anyway by then. Line was going downhill and so was the D. 96 was the last year we could have won a ring.

Exactly. How on one hand can he talk about cleaning the team up after going through so much and then turn around and draft Moss? Granted some blasted Jerry for years after passing on Moss but to me I was in agreement. As a long time Cowboys fan it was embarrassing what was happening to that team

I keep thinking of the phrase "Pride goeth before the fall". In fact, that could have been a good name for the book

I used to work out at the same small gym as Emmitt and I can say what I read about him in the book is what I experienced, very unfriendly, arrogant and aloof, pretty disappointing

Eric Everett is cool as he'll tho, easy to talk to, funny and friendly toward everyone

Lett was Marijuana related but it was happening over and over he would be in and then suspended it became a joke. Cowboys had maintained an image for years and all of that came crashing down.

Moss made Jeff George, Randall Cunningham, and Culpepper look like pro bowlers.

He would've immediately made the team better, especially with Aikman. Would've hidden a lot of the teams warts and at least kept us competitive.

He was absolutely unstoppable when he got in the league. Couldn't cover him, couldn't scheme him out the game, just throw it up and watch him go to work.

But I totally understand Jerry's concerns.

Bryan Broaddus cleared this all up. Jerry left the decision up to chan gailey the new coach and gailey didnt want him,

And broaddus when he told the story said it was fact because the cowboys record the war room and save it. He went back and watched the old drafts as part of his job. And in 98 it was gailey who refused on moss, not jerry.

Emmitt was always an egomaniac. Cared about nothing more than personal goals.

Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled he was a Cowboy - but he isn't the guy I expected him to be growing up.

I agree. I remember the draft well sitting there with part of me wanting the talent in Moss and yet knowing it was a risk the Cowboys were not willing to take and with good reason.

Sad, but true.

As I've made abunduntly clear around here, I'm no fan of Jerry but I could never fault him for passing on Moss, maybe for allowing the team to get that out of control but then they may not have ever been so successful. That team seemed to be full of players that thrived from living on the edge
