Does this mean that Byron Murphy goes before 24? If he is available at 24, do the Cowboys take him?
IMO.....Yes
The top 3-4 DTs could go way higher than we think. It appears every team wants an elite DT now.

I would take Murphy or Newton before the OL expected to be available. Both guys are impact players. Osa is a nice rotational piece. But they won’t jump though hoops to pay him. And we need players on the interior DL in the worst way.

DT is one of the most important positions on the field.

The list of importance IMO goes:

QB
OT
DE
DT
G/C

The skilll positions and LB all come after QB and OL/DL.

So yes. If you have a great DT they are worth it. Problem is the cowboys don’t have anyone worth paying and haven’t in years.

I like Murphy a lot. The issue with selecting a DT in the first is that many, if not all, the top OT and OC talent will be selected before the Cowboys 2nd round pick.

Maybe Murphy is such a enticing target that the Cowboys roll the dice on a player like Van Pran (OC) or Fisher (OT) in the 2nd

Welcome to the 21st century NFL.
They top 10 players at practically every position in the league are going to be signed to very lucrative contracts.

This is why:
From freelance journalist Laura Beck, in an article submitted to Yahoo Finance last fall (September 2023), she listed every NFLfranchise's amount in Revenue (R), their Operating Income (OI), and Current Value (CV).
The BOTTOM FIVE franchises were___
32) Bengals; R= $498 Million, OI = 104 Million, CV = $3.5 Billion
31) Lions; R = $495 M, OI = $51 M, CV = $3.6 B
30) Bills; R = $503 M, OI = $119 M, CV = $3.7 B
29) Cardinals; R = $500 M, OI = $83 M, CV = $3.8 B
28] Jaguars; R = $517 M, OI = $110 M, CV = 4.0 B

And by the way - the NFL media rights agreed to in 2021 netted each team a payout of $249 million for the 2022-23 season.
(Couldn't find the amount for the 2023-24.)

The league and the franchises are getting paid big time...so now the top players are making huge amounts also - regardless of the position they play.
Specialists on the kicking teams still are the exception.

THIS IS FUNNY!!!! DT this DT that, yet I remember a lot of you saying how LONG it takes for them to actually do something!!! Are we still sticking to this? They're not allowed to make a few good plays as a rookie or in their 2nd season, we have to wait until the suggested expectation of 4 years hits, which is usually around new contract time, I BET they turn out to be good then to get that money!!

I would take a star pass rushing DT over a star pass rushing end because of how much rarer they are
Yeah, and they start off that much closer to the qb. You get a guy like that and his impact is huge.
