What's the deal with Jabril Cox?

LVE plays almost every defensive snap, and Barr is used as a pass rusher at times from his position. Cox is not a MLB or a pass rush threat, so the way the defense is constructed he would probably be more of a SS. That's just how I see it.

Cox is more of a coverage LB. The team does pretty well against the pass, from what I figure. But our run defense could be better. So if you want to be better against the run, why play a coverage LB?

BUT... that's just my best guess at what's going on with Cox. I'd definitely like to see him get some snaps in, especially on third and longs.

What's the deal with Dan Quinn??? Why is he favoring much older and way slower LBs over a young, quick, fast and aggressive LB?

There is obviously something there that us fans aren’t privy to. Is he fully recovered?, is he not practicing well?, is he not doing well in the positional meetings?

I don’t see it as Cox doing something wrong but more that he’s caught behind some good players playing well. As much as we’d like to replace LVE, he’s still making the calls. However, I suspect this will be the last year for him here.

Pure speculation on my part but I think coming back from the injury they don’t feel the rush to play him just yet. I think next year we will get a better idea of how this team fills about him because I think LVE will be playing for someone else and Barr more than likely will too.

Pretty good speculation. Sounds about right to me.

It's more about who is ahead of him. He is more of a nickel player where the likes of Barr/Kearse are ahead of him. Both our linebackers are on 1 yr deals, perhaps next year will give him a real opportunity to contribute. Think Clark actually has more of a chance to see playing time with the defense this season.

I think there are a couple factors worth considering:

1. I think maybe he is being looked at more as the future Jayron Kearse than the future LVE or Barr, and he might still be learning the mental side of the D to call defenses (which honestly I believe Clark will do sometime next year)

2. I think maybe he can play, but his injury was enough that the cowboys are giving him time to get to 100% (atrophy, etc), and will maybe incorporate him more after the bye

Some players take longer to come back from major injuries than others. He may just need more time.
