What's the deal with James Washington? He was placed on IR August 31st and the soonest he could play is Oct. 9 against the Rams. At which point he would have been nearly 10 weeks from fracturing his foot during a practice. Reports in early August suggested he would be out for 6-to-10 weeks.

We all read in September that he was out of his walking boot, was spotted doing rehab, reports of his recovery being on schedule. Then in early October word was he still needed more time and then on the 19th it was feeling good and could return soon. On November 9th Big Mike said Washington is "very, very close to being ready". He hasn't even been designated to return yet from injured reserve. The next game for our Cowboys isn't until December 4th.

So what is the latest word on him? Will we see him this year or will he be MIA all season? Why is his recovery taking so long? At this point will he make any impact if he does finally play?

He didn't have any impact in Pitt when healthy. Takes these players time to get back into game shape. Gallup is just starting to look close to his old self.

Bad feet has ended the careers of many an NFL player. A lot of times guys don't even know how bad they are until NFL doctors get an up close look at them. And then a lot of times guys like Dez tough it out and play through them until the damage is nigh irreversible. My guess is that there are a couple of things at play with Washington.. One being bad feet as I mentioned, and the other being trying to manipulate the roster to basically not activate him until we absolute need to. There have been positions with higher need than wide receiver that needed bolstering. Don't get me wrong, I would like to see what he's got, but he is clearly NOT lighting it up in practice or we would have seen him active already.

They have to see him playing this season as he is on the 53 man roster. If they sign Beckham, his spot could go to him.

But I’ve been very disappointed with Washington. We keep hearing be patient, it’s mental etc etc. But it would be 17 weeks from a 6-10 week injury if he plays next week.

I thought he was close to being activated weeks ago- now they never even mention him at all- who knows anymore

He did not not look good in camp prior to the injury.

He does not have to practice for 3 weeks prior to returning. That's a maximum time window not minimum.

When Washington returns someone has to go. Maybe they are stalling that as long as they can.

That’d be my best guess.

There was some story where he's a real life cowboy. He leaves practice and feeds his cows and horses or something like that.

If he wants a spot on the team next year he better get his *** in gear. This was a 6-week injury and he's still not playing. Was his plan all along? To steal a roster spot? It looks like that to me. That's a very short-sighted plan.

Or would Washington be that guy that has to go So what’s the point in rushing things? Especially if OBJ ends up in Dallas I see no chance Washington gets back on the roster this year without someone getting injured, possibly two guys need to go down.

I think Washington is a non-factor this season. A free agent miss. I don’t think they’re going to do anything with him until Beckham makes a decision. And I’m not sure barring injury if they’ll do anything with him then.
