What's the deal with Thornton?

Reading between the lines, he's struggling with the one-gap transition. Plus, the team has always really liked McClain, they couldn't get him on the field.

That said, the performance of the DTs was one of the most perplexing and concerning things from Sunday's game. That wasn't even a very good interior OL or running game they were going against and they were getting linemen on our LBs. Not good.
Not Good! :D

Well he got pinned/double teamed big time on the 2nd play. But McClain also played better than Crawford may have ever played on Sunday. And they're going to give Crawford all of the opportunities they can for a while. I don't expect to see too much of Thornton.

and acting like we gave thornton suh money is also silly. He is a role player who will have his moments here.
With our cap room and how we spend, it might as well be Suh money.

He was the plum prize of the free agency period, that we were willing to do.

But again.

We can do whatever we want in free agency.

I made a thread about this 2 weeks ago and was told to calm down stop fretting.
Officially start fretting..

like the rest of us.

A guy like like Thorton was supposed to do more for sure.

Marinelli's scheme seem to have to have not one or two key players but several role players spread thru 2 or 3 waves of lineman.

Whether because of suspensions or injuries..it seems pretty below par.

And that is going to make the secondary very porous.

So how you stop that I don't know.

Blitz more?

More stunts?

He needs to come up with something.

Marinelli won't come up with anything, nothing sustainable at least.

Like Garrett, he is married to a scheme and it has very little flexibility.

Once wrong on a player fit, there is no going back to adjust.

Then the players get blamed for poor "execution".

This is a one game sample size where everyone played bad. Its statistically irrelevant to draw conclusions from it

This is the same argument people have been using for Garrett his entire HC career. Small sample size, injuries, Jerry's puppet, not toilet trained, mamma's boy, etc.

its painful at moment because it looks like Giants hit on all 3 big defensive FA signings. Dallas on other hand has poured good amount of money at DT for two players (Crawford & Thorton). If I see both of these players getting pushed around by skins I will start to get concerned. But for now I am just chalking that up to bad start for many of those DL. The rookie DT (Collins) was also getting throw around like rag doll.

Let's hope Thornton improves once he gets more comfortable with his surroundings and scheme.

Other than that, it's the same old stuff. Being candid, I'm just relieved that McClain is healthy now.

Oh my lord. That's it. Never again will I spend much time on here after a loss. So far we need to get rid of Dez, Tyron, Collins, Fred, Martin, Zeke is a bust, Witten needs to announce his retirement before game 2, Dak is not even back up worthy, T Crawford and Thornton need to go because one will never create pressure again and the other won't see the field again, Sean Lee and Scandrick now suck, and Byron Jones is a bust as well. What else have I missed?

It's truly been more absurd than usual. What's funny is there were a ton of people talking about how terrible our defense would be beforehand...then they give up a whopping 20 points yet everyone is up in arms afterwards starting threads about how terrible everyone is. LOL.

Same story as last year. Decent enough to hang around, then they get destroyed when they're needed the most.

Welcome to the CZ....where many are experts in being a GM, a head coach, a scout, draft guru, film analyst, a doctor, play calling time clock management experts all rolled into one...and there are many of them.

You missed all the things about Jason being a bad coach and should be fired...well, we get that everyday though...

Thornton isn't even starting. When he is playing, he isn't good.

Think its like Mickey Spags says....if he was so good, why didnt Philly keep him.....why did they let him get to FA.....JAG

Thorton got his payday....now its time to chill

They transitioned from a 3-4 to a 4-3. That eliminated Thorton's starting position because a 3-4 has 3 players similar to a 4-3 DT; whereas, a 4-3 just has two.

It's funny, because years ago there were unlimited posts/threads about the Cowboys being over the cap. People exclaimed they were doomed because of it.

Now people complain that they don't spend enough.

Get some defensive end help (which is coming).
