What's the delay on the releases?

Seems like alot of teams are already unloading some players..what's taking so long to release some of our "no brainers"?

Henry making 5 million next year as a 4th CB

Ellis making 6.6 million as a whiny OLB that plays 15 plays a game.

RW making 7 million as a liability in the passing game.

Is Jerry just assessing the roster right now? Because I can't imagine why these guys are on the roster right now. We can save a ton of money.

Just waiting for the combine? Or you think he's planning doing some trading during the draft?

I personally would like to see Bobby and Henry to Miami for a 4th. Similiar to what we did last year with Akin and Fasano. Akin was a cost cut just like Henry and Bowles loves him.

Henry is staying, out side of newman we have 2 second year starters who played well last season. I dont trust them taking over the 2nd and slot coverage duties.

I have a strong feelings Roy Williams will re-structure his contract.

We have 0 no-brainer releases. Ellis is close but other than that don't expect much action.

I dont think Ellis is as close as some people see it to be, behind him is a thus far injury prone Anthony Spencer i dont see why the sudden rush to put him into a full time starter pos

Whats the rush?

You cant sign anybody till free agency starts, so there is really no benefit to releasing players right now.

Besides, the smart play is to shop some guys at the combine and see if we can get some mid or late round picks for the guys we are thinking about cutting.

I see no reason why Brad Johnson is still on the roster. Maybe they will wait until they sign another backup, not for competetion with Brad but in order to keep the price of the FA down.

Ellis we cant lose, although i'd like that 4.5 million in cap space. We have NO depth at all at OLB. Maybe we move Bobby Carp back there to backup Spencer. His best game(Seattle playoffs) came from that OLB position opposite Ware.

Roy i think will restructure. I dont see Brown being back here next year so that leaves Hamlin, Watkins, Davis & Roy as S.(wow that list is so uninspring it pains me to type it. Hamlins contract was worse than the Flozell one iMO)

Henry - if he goes it leaves Newman , Scandrcik Jenkins & ball. We's need at least another one there. Unless Henry moves to S in which case that could mean we let Roy go. Even then i'm not sure henry is gonna make it as a FS. His tackling is somewhat suspect to me and i think he lacks closing speed in droves.

no doubt about that...the major meltdown is coming, just wait and see

the irony of it is alot of people who will be melting down are the same one's who have complained in recent weeks that "Jones overspends"

If Ellis is cut it will be after we add another OLB somehow. This team will not go into the year with Justin Rogers as a 3rd OLB.

Unless the guys have roster bonuses there is zero reason to release them now except to help them find work elsewhere.

From what I undertand if we cut Greg Ellis we save 4.5 in cap space. I would like to see him gone. I am sick of hearing about him complaining. I'd be alright with drafting two OLB prospects in the draft and letting them compete against Spencer for playing time.

Roy Williams we only gain 2 Mil in cap space. I think we would have a tough time getting a better player than Roy williams for 2 Million on the open market. That's just my opinion. Draft someone to take his place for next year and work on reworking his deal.

Brad Johnson we save over 2 million in cap space. Can't undertand why we haven't cut him already?

I don't know the story on Anthony Henry. If we cut him how much do we save? I think that Jenkins and Scandrick could be better options to start the other side of Newman right now. And I hope they don't start Henry over a player just because of his salary. The reason they might keep him is because Newman is constantly getting hurt now.

That's one of the many things I don't like about this staff they are afraid to bench the vets. Whether it's TO, MB3, Ellis, Henry, even Brad Johnson. A good old fashion benching might do them a world of good. The players have no fear, TO you want to mouth off about our coaching staff. Have him sit out a game or at least the first couple of series the way the Giants did with their malcontent WR. Maybe that's a bad example we don't want TO to go shooting himself in the leg.

From what I understand, if we cut Greg Ellis, we are losing a very solid pass rusher....

Yes, but you have to cut your losses sometime - cut him now and then next year we are in better shape

He's not taking too much less money because he only plays the game for the money at this point.

But Abe!!! That doesn't matter!!

The guy is "sick of hearing about him complain" so he wants him cut and play on the field is secondary!!!

Likely just waiting for him to make a decision on retirement. Always better to let a guy go on his own terms if you can. This is just the team giving Johnson a little veteran respect.

Agreed, as awful as he was he was still a professional and deserves to be treated that way.

Greg Ellis finished with 8 sacks, but look at his season. I will ignore his bad attitude and need to run to Uncle Jerry. The guy didn't come out of a game one time when he was asked to come out, but let's stick to his production on the field.

For the first 9 weeks, Ellis had 3 sacks. During this stretch, Ellis had a seven game stretch where he recorded 1 sack. Two sacks came in week 2 against the Eagles.

During weeks 11-17, Ellis recorded 5 sacks. 2.5 of those sacks came against the Giants, and their RT left that game with an injury.

Ellis turns 34 in August. It's time to move on. Third down rushers don't make what Ellis is going to cost in cap room next season. If 4.5 million can be saved by cutting Ellis, like TLCC stated, then, it's a no brainer.

Anthony Spencer belongs to Dallas. He's their guy. They drafted him number 26 overall in round 1.

Time to let him play every down, or you can continue to take him off the field on third down and play a declining, aging, complaining, and selfish player.

By the way, Amonte Toomer is still running.
