What's the real story with Tapper?

Some had this guy penciled-in over the summer to start at DE from game one, if only by default.

Now? I can't even remember the last time I heard his name mentioned. Our 2nd rd pick, ie, the one who we've known almost certainly won't play this year, gets more chatter. Of course, maybe I'm not paying close enough attention. Is there any reason for hope that Tapper could get back on the field and emerge to be a God-send?

What's it going to be then, eh?

I don't care what is wrong with him, but we are getting to the point where we won't be able to keep a roster spot open for him.

If Bryant has to miss time, they are not going to IR him. That means three spots on the active roster for non-participants.

If he couldn't return they would put him on IR. One player can return from IR after 8 weeks.

I'm a little confused. The most recent story I could google (9/5) said that he's had this condition since he was a kid, but didn't know it... so, how did he go through playing the time that he did at Oklahoma? How is it not something new if it's something that only began bothering him in preseason? And, is it still bothering him--we're 3 weeks out from him saying that he's running and cutting again. Or, are we so impressed with what we have at DE that, like Romo, there's no real point in getting him back out there as soon as possible? (... he said with a wry grin.)

Through HS and college ball to a degree being the best guy on the field allows you to do things you cant do in the NFL. He is playing against the best guys in college and the strength and conditioning and impact is whole other level in the NFL. His condition I think was found because of a soft tissue injury, he is being held out to repair the old injury as not to aggravate the soft tissue. Not to mention the treatment regime is pretty much zero activity so he is probably out of football shape.

Maybe they forgot and left him in the MRI machine?

The team has become more tight-lipped, which sucks for us but is the smart policy for the team. Anything we add here about Tapper is just wild speculation.

This might have been discussed before but Tapper has what turned out to be a previously-undiscovered back fracture he has apparently had since he was a child.

Is there a solution to his back fracture, if he has had it since he was a child how does this thing ever get better? Is surgery a option?
