You'd make Roy Williams among the highest paid 5 players in the NFL?

Not me.
Yep. There is more to him than what you see on the field to consider as well.

What? Is he a nice guy or something?

I could care less. Pay 'em for performance.

I think he's a top 5 SS in the league and should get a good but not ridiculous salary....ala archuleta. I love Roy, esp since went to my school and led my Sooners to a ring. But I really think you'd see Keith Davis blossom at SS. Not that he'd be as good, but I think he'd be pretty darned good. Kid loves to hit people and he's really really good at it. Great tackler too. Essentially, he's like a cheap version of Roy. We're not doing him any favors by forcing him to play FS, which isn't his strong point.
Overall, I think we should re-sign Roy, but I don't think the drop off would be all that big.

Roy is a playmaker and you keep your playmakers. The INT against the Eagles, the hit at the goalline against the Giants causing the fumble, and on and on. He has coverage woes but is the best run support safety in the league. Roy has been durable, productive, a leader, and sets a tone for the defense. Pay him. He was the first building block of this new defense.

the INT from the eagles to win was sweet - no if's, and's for but's....

however - if mcnabb had thrown it ANYWHERE near his WR, it would have sailed over his head.

he's still a top 5 safety to me overall.

another question: why is everybody bothering over Roy Williams becoming overpaid? Roy seems like hed rather have a ring than money, he has said that his lifestyle didnt change when he received the big paycheck and that it never will, so why the worry about the guy caring about the money > a SB Ring? he is a true cowboy and it will stay that way, great playmakers like Roy stay in their homes.

BTW, Roy has never been a flashy player, never wanted his contract to be re-negotiated, even after being an All-Pro SS and what not. he knows his talent and so does his agent, but they also know how much sweeter a SB ring would be to Roy than a little bit more $, since he will be making good money no matter what, the cowboys arent stupid.

Pay Roy what he deserves, which is a GOOD salary, a salary that a top5 SS deserves. Once again, Roy wont leave the cowboys for a little bit of money somewhere else. especially since the defense is being built around HIM, he is one of the only players on our D that has started since he became a cowboy.

I'm sure this will rile some people up, but I don't think Roy deserves a massive deal and if he left, I don't think it'd be as drastic as some think.

Pay him a fair salary that is in the top 5 range for safeties and be done with it. Or franchise him if he wants more.

it won't rile me up, I just want to keep him
