What's up with McBriar?

He's so average lately. Anyone know if he's fighting an injury?

Beginning of the year, he was booming them and looked like he was in form for a repeat season and probowl, but I've been very disappointed in his punts for the past two months. It seems every time I'm thinking we really need him to boom one, he shanks it or hits it short or a line drive.

He doesn't look like he's going to make a repeat trip to Hawaii to me...I know he's good, but it looks to me like he's been underperforming. Anyone have any inside scoop on his condition that I've missed? I know he killed one recently, but am I the only one who thinks he's been very inconsistent this year?

I feel the same way.

Maybe he's just not used to punting anymore? He had alot more practice last year.:laugh2:

He didn't step on the field today so hard to gage his progress. He's still the best. This team is the best collectively. The Old Brits have peaked and are in decline. They won't see a real challenge until the World champ colts or Cowboys ride in town.

Rust I guess. I know that short punt he had really put the defense in a bad spot.

Everyone has bad days or goes into a funk.

Even the World's Best Punter.

I thought I was the only one that noticed this. This has been going on a while now, and like to day, he puts one out to our own 40, when last year that would've been at the 25, and then boots one to the back of the end zone.

I really like McBriar, I hope all his well with him health wise.

What are you talking about? He had a short punt from deep in our territory.

exactly....early in his career, he suffered from inconsistency, booming some and shanking others. Then last year he was very consistent. It's not that he doesn't still hit one now and again, but he's definitely more inconsistent and hasn't been punting well since early Oct. imo.

He shanked one today. Other than that he has been fine. He has not had room to boom his kicks. He is often trying to get the ball to die inside the 20. He rarely gets opportunities to just let loose and boom it.

It could be all the times he gets run in to (without a penalty being called as well)

Well, remember that in the "booming" punts, there is a trade-off... he can punt the ball 60 yards, but that will likely give the returner extra room to operate.

And we've given up big plays in the return game at various points of the year, unlike last year. Perhaps we're "playing it safe" on our punts and going for shorter (40-50 yard) punts with more hang-time?

That change in style from last year could be a reason for McBriar's inconsistency. I'd bet if he was told to just boom them like last year, we'd see the McBriar of last year... but also more long returns.
