when you're flying out of the secondary to make a diving tackle short of the first down, it's hard to hit them hard enough to make highlight reels.
So do you think he is playing better now than in years past?

So whats separates him from being a average safety?

The key interception against the Eagles, the key caused fumble against the Giants at home. Those kinds of plays. There is a reason Eli had a bad game yesterday. Roy was part of that reason.

I have to agree with you on one those plays but the interception was more a bad throw on Mcnabbs part than a great play by Roy.I do not feel that he is an average safety but IMO there semms to be something missing in his play this year.

I have no problem with him tacking low for this game. As much as he does intimidate I think its like a boxer. Most boxers get knocked early when they aren't warmed up enough. We were playing in very cold weather and going for woo hit can do something to him as well. Roy is smart, which not too many people give him credit for, so him going low is to ensure Tiki goes down is smart. And IMO its too damn cold to try to knock people out and ding yourself as well.

Look at his play last season. This year, he is better.

I can see were you coming from. I think with the improved play of the D overall we should se Roy at his best being let lose to make more game changing plays.I also have noticed this leg tackling going on for the last couple of weeks.

OK I agree that is a better tackling technique but the question I have is does that take away the intimidation factor and if so IMO this makes Roy a run of the mill safety and not worth the money we pay him, its certainly not for his coverage ability.

Wow...this from a Dallas fan? I thought that Roy Williams was every Cowboys fan beloved hero that came to save the day?

Roy tackling like this is better, he is currently doing what Sean Taylor should be doing. Although it's nice to see Taylor on Jacked up every week, he still misses too many tackles in a game by going for the killshot.

Do you think he is a better SS than Woodson and what do you think the difference is between them.

IMO, he is being let loose. The GP didn't call for him to blitz this week because of Shockey and their WR core. If Roy blitzes on NY then Eli just lobs the ball up to Buress over Ag like they did a couple of times and if Burress breaks a tackle it could get ugly. Good GP and without the INts and fumbles by Bledsoe we executed to prefection on defense. You can't put your defense in those positions and expect for them to cover your butss every game.

The difference between Roy and Woody will always be coverage. Roy will probably cause as many impact plays as Woody did, but he can't cover like Woody.

I agree to a point this is better but I never felt he missed that many tackles before. I do not feel he will ever be a big INT guy so what is going to make him a difference maker in this D.

Why is he going for everybodys legs what happened to the Whoo hits. It seems that all of his tackles are below the waist or is it just me. I think Roy is playing well but the intimidation factor seems to be missing I think he could have had some kill shots on Barber yesterday but went for his legs instead.

Hmmm

You do realise that this kind of tackling by Roy Williams resulted in a forced fumble against the Broncos right?

Roy is fine, always making plays.

Think about this...your team is blessed with 3 great DB's. Williams doesn't have to be a big int guy.

Thats my point Woody was never a consistent All Pro because he did not have the INTS but everybody looks at Roy in that light, but he does not have those high INT numbers either. Actually I would like to know what are Roy's turnover numbers this year as opposed to other yrs. I think Woodson was what all SS should be judged by and it was a crime that he did not make the Pro Bowl more than he did.

I realize that but if he is not knocking people out what is his real value. I have followed Roy since his OU days and I love him as a player I have just not seen him with so many low hits before and if he is not laying the wood his value diminishes.

Roy can't do it all by himself. He needs help back there.

I'm sure that there is nothing wrong with Roy but I did notice this on yesterday too. The ideal tackling technique is to shoot for the legs while locking them up with your arms. Roy mostly likes to hit with force and he only wraps up when he has to.

I am biased because Woody is one of my all time favorites. Woody could cover receivers one on one better than Roy. I think Roy sees things a little bit better in zone coverage. Woody was a better tackler and that is no slight to Roy who is a good tackler. I think Roy is a much better blitzer. It is still too early to tell who is better. Roy is used differently than Woody. He is still used off the line more than Woody was used.
