What's worse, the Cowboys needing to trade for Josh McCown or Cleveland being scared to let him go?

Josh McClown can keep his *** in Cleveland - If Romo goes down, the season's already over. At least Dak gets a chance to grow.

If they trade for McCown, at 37 years of age, that tells you that the Cowboys only want someone there until Moore gets back or until Prescott or Showers can handle backup duties which is idiotic in my opinion.

While I'm optimistic that Prescott can grow into a solid quarterback in the NFL in a couple of years, why not bring in a guy who can provide yet another shot as our future quarterback as well? From now on, every season could be Romo's last and letting optimism and hope limit your contingency planning is not only foolish, it's outright stupid and narrow minded.

Any quarterback the Cowboys sign to be the backup should be one that has had success in the NFL and who is young enough to have several years left to play in the NFL. Signing a 37 year old quarterback (and I really don't care how good he is or can play) is wasting an opportunity that could set this team back years if Prescott does not pan out in 2-3 years and I say that as a Prescott fan.

The front office and coaching staff needs to stop thinking about the moment and start thinking about life after Romo. We have a really good young foundation on this team and wasting time on has-been and never-will-be quarterbacks is detrimental to the team's future.

It's time for the Cowboys front office and coaching staff to wake up! What they have tried has not worked.. time to think outside the box .. where most other teams' front office and coaching staffs are already hanging out.

Dude McCown can play, he may not be starting material at this point but he is good enough to pull a Jon Kitna and win a couple games should Romo have to miss a few games. I don't think Dak is ready to do that. To be fair Kellen Moore wasnt good enough to do that either. Had we just been able to win a couple Romoless games last year we had a chance to sneak into the playoffs and get him back.

I wouldn't let someone pay me to watch a Cleveland game, but since I'm a gambling man I happened to watch a few of their games last year, and he's a lot better than the crap we've got now. I don't think.even the most optimistic believe Dak as a rookie represents a huge upgrade over what we had last year.

That's the thing, though. I understand that he's not an upgrade. But the way that our team is built, if Tony does go down, any backup is nearly equally as insufficient as the next. If we did draft a QB in the 4th, and we do have plans on breeding him, then at least he can get some valuable playing time and experience to grow.

It doesn't matter who we sign. Garrett and Linehan aren't creative enough to utilize their strengths. They'll continue to trot along like Romo was playing, just like they did last season.

Garrett will also call out the FG unit while down 20 points.

You didn't read what I posted. I specifically said I don't care how good an old quarterback is or how great he can play, if Romo's out, we need to be trying out people who can not only help us now, but help us 3-5 years from now once Romo is gone. Hopefully Prescott, Showers, etc. will rise up in 2-3 years, but just in case that doesn't happen, we should use any Romo downtime to throw another potential solution into the mix, not a bandaid. We wasted all last season on two guys are not on the team any more. We cannot afford to do that this season or any season while Romo is our quarterback given his age and injury history.

It was different 3-5 years ago. Then, a Kitna type of player was great because Romo was coming back, if not that season, the next. Romo may want to play 10 more years, but quarterbacks tend to drop-off hard. It happened to Favre. It happened to Manning. One season they are playing like they're 10 years younger, then the next season, it's like they aged 10 years. We need to be looking for a quarterback who can win if he plays but also one who could be a starter for us in 3-4 years if our young guys do not work out.

He, in the very literal sense, TORCHED us late in the 2013 season. We weren't a great team, but we were looking the part to take the division when there were two good teams ahead of us relying on their back-up QBs (McCown with the Bears and Flynn with GB). Short story even shorter: McCown clowned us hard..to the tune of (had to google stats) 4TDs in a 45-28 victory. Then, to follow up that colossally bad performance, we (Garrett) absolutely gave the next game away to Matt Mother-******-Flynn! This has been the background on my facebook page since that GB loss (credits to whoever created it):

Okay, I remember now. I must have been blocking a painful memory out. He's good. Sign the SOB.

....

?????? They did not play Weeden anything like Romo. They scaled him way back, limiting him mostly to short passes. In fact, he was so scaled back that a big part of our problem was predictability with no downfield threat. They let Cassel open up more, but his plays were severely restricted, out of necessity because he had a short time to learn the play book.

Foles knows Andy Reid and his system. I'm sure the comfort level was way higher.
And basically being told he can't beat out Kellen Moore, Prescott and Showers for snaps by the owner made that comfort level much more appealing.

Cleveland is reluctant to let their tested veteran option go because they know their starter has an injury history and their rookie won't be ready. Golly. That sounds like something a smart team would do. Pretty sad when the Browns appear to have a better handle on the importance of the QB position than we do.
