What's wrong with Jeff Driskel?

Great numbers, arm, accuracy, leadership, vision, mobility, intangibles. He checks all these boxes.

We're all hyped up to take a QB at 4, even one from the FCS, and have them sit for 2 years behind Romo. But what's wrong with doing the same thing with a 2nd 3rd round pick? Especially when the guy probably has the same amount of raw talent. If we're going to nurture a QB for years, then why does it have to be a player from the first round?

Driskel got all the qualities of a top pick, but with a obviously inconsistent college career.

The one game on draftbreakdown: http://draftbreakdown.com/video/jeff-driskel-vs-arkansas-state-2015/

PS. Dixon rocks. I hope we find a way to grab him too.

He quit on Florida.....literally quit because he couldn't handle the blazing spotlight the Gators fans cast.

This post sums up why I do not want to use the first pick on a QB.
If the Cowboys were drafting an immediate starter then I would support a first round QB.

He transferred to a different school when Florida wasn't a good environment for him. I'd do the same thing, as a professional, and look for a different job if the environment was toxic and threatened my long-term career prospects.

Not only did he not quit football, but he responded by playing even better, demonstrating excellent leadership traits along the way.

I worry that he was a pretty mediocre against top college talent (which is what he'll see in the NFL) and only did OK when he stepped down in comp at LaTech.

He's a guy that you could take a flier on late in this draft, but 2nd or 3rd round? No way.

I am not so sure the toxic angle works in that the source of that environment was Muschamp and he was fired before Driskel transferred. Rumors are he decided to transfer because he couldn't get assurances that he'd be the starter from Mcelwain. I think it's as simple as he wanted to make sure he'd play his last year and the new UF coaching staff couldn't guarantee that.

I understand that argument, but most people here want to use the 4th pick in the draft on someone who's never even played against top competition.

And I do expect Driskel to rise in the draft. He's got the tools, production from his last season, and the intangibles. Definitely not all the way to 2, but I can see him going 3, for sure.

I really don't care what the rumors are. I care what the reality is, the facts. And the facts are he left Florida and played awesome in his senior year. Everything I read about his intangibles is consistently positive.

He's inconsistent on the field, absolutely. Accuracy is off at times (he seems to use the wrong touch on some throws). But all of these guys, besides Goff, are inconsistent. Wentz's deep ball is bad, Lynch's footwork is occasionally awful. But we let their positives overwhelm their negatives, under the assumption they'll be redshirting under Romo for two years. Seems to me Driskel is not afforded the same treatment, though he, arguably, has the same potential

NOOOOOO and im a gator fan just NOOOO

But here's my problem: if you were a Louisiana Tech fan, would your answer still be negative?

We all thought Martellus Bennett was just awful. A waste of talent. But then he left for Chicago and became one of the better TEs in the league.

The league is full of players & coaches who've floundered in one location, gone somewhere else and flourished.

I'm not a fan of writing people off because of past failures. Especially when the intangibles, work ethic and physical abilities are positive.

No offense, but it's a real stretch to say Driskel is basically the same as Goff or Wentz at this point (same potential). If he were, he'd be talked about as a potential first round pick as well.

If you cant get it done in the SEC, how you gonna get it done on Sunday? I am only interested in him late if they draft two QBs, him being the second, which is incredibly doubtful.

That's fair.

They're not basically the same. That's an exaggeration on my part. However, I just don't see this massive gap in talent. Especially when one of the guys is more of a projection than Driskel because he played at a significantly lower level of competition.

I think Goff is head and shoulders above the rest, while Wentz and Lynch are good prospects, the next best. But I also like what I see from Driskel. I don't want to disqualify the remaining QBs from contention just because the board has arbitrarily decided only three of them are worth our time.

My opinion of him is based of what I've seen total body of work on the field of caosre hes gonna look better going to a smaller school after having some success at Florida we know of and heard of comeback stories at other positions but very very very very very very very very very very and Very rarely does a QB do b on field at 1 place go to a lower level division playing against less talent every week look better and come to the NFL and lead his team to Super Bowls idk of any please direct me to those players that have in the last 20 years because the game is not the same...... I go by the eye test and I will pass on him i firmly against drafting him as well but not for the Cowboys... so u believe he will lead us to a Super Bowls? because I don't believe that for 1 sec at all

Great kid, put in a BAD situation, compounded by bad decisions. Then further screwed by an inept staff wanting 2 different offense philosophies.

I'd ran like hell as well..... You can say he quit, but you don't know the internal conflicts that went on in that staff when things went SOUTH

The problem with this logic is that he transferred after the staff that caused the problems was gone.

But his reputation was already in place. I don't blame him a bit for wanting to leave, especially considering how well he performed afterwards

We are talking about developing a QB to take over, I see no reason that Driskel couldn't become a decent starter for us after learning from Romo and getting better on his weaknesses.

You build an elite defense, give him some weapons, develop him and bet you can have success with him at QB
