Love the guy! Hate he has more behind him than IN front of him.

Is he one that you kind of go like this?

Offensive holding calls were down significantlly this past year...something absurd, like 50%+...I'm going to be on this ship alone, but Imo, the value of OL is going down some bc of this..you don't need an elite OT anymore..if they aren't going to call holding, just get a good OT and use the new way the game is being called to your advantage

I am at about 75% right now. Modern medicine has given a number of guys with that neck thing another 4-5 productive years. Moose's surgery was worse as they had to fuse vertebrae in his neck and he played 2-3 more years after. As long as there is no risk of direct injury to the spinal cord he should be good to go. But not a lot of details have been made known about his surgery so that gives me pause. I think the Cowboys would be stupid not to have a backup plan at this point. But I am not ready to spend a premium pick on it.

75% is about right. Rest, surgery and more rest are huge for Smith.

He should give us the usual 13-14 All pro games this year

I think the decrease in holding calls was a one year wonder. The league intentionally mandated that they not call as much because they knew there would be tons more shuffling with all the Covid stuff. I think things trend back to the norm next season.

I don't feel comfortable relying on him. Talent isn't the problem, being able to stay on the field is the problem.

His body is only going to continue to break down. Cowboys need to be serious about Plan B.

I'll take this bet all day . There is no chance that was the reasoning behind it..this trend will definitely continue

I'll just refer to post #8. It's really no more complicated than that. I'm going to hope for the best, but he needs replacing soon. Might need right tackle as well.

50%. why? when he is healthy he is still top 3. but he is often injured with back problems and its not going away, so he will miss some games and he will be less than 100% on several others. so all in all, probably get 8 games out of him. I love the guy. he is fantastic. one of the best who played LT, should be a HOFer, but its time to find the next tackle and move on from smith. If by any chance Sewell falls to us at 10, he would be the only offensive player I would consider.

I am reasonably sure that he will return to playing and play this season. I am also reasonably sure that he is getting closer to the end of his career than anyone suspects. He has some salvage value.

Get your salvage value out of him if it’s reasonable. If he starts out playing at a high level, trade him to a contender who needs an OT for a premium pick.

Better find his replacement this off-season. I think it’s a mistake to plan on Tyron playing all year and keeping Knight or Steele as his backup.

75% for me. When he’s healthy he’s still at his position. That’s the key. WHEN he’s healthy. Now he’s 30 how many years does he have left.

The strength of this team is the OL. The most important position on the OL is LT. It's the second most important position on the field, outside of QB. Make sure that position is solid because if you don't, you open yourself up to another year of your QB on the shelf.

Besides, LT might be the best position value at our number 10 pick, on the board. Go ahead and take a LT if that's the play.

Coming in a distant second to the 'Cut Tyrone Crawford (yesterday!)' mantra here at CZ is 'Trade Tyron for a 2nd \ 3rd round pick'. I'm in the minority to keep Smith --pending how he feels about his recovery and ability to play well one more season. However, after 9 stellar seasons (not counting 2020) the end is near. Finding (draft, FA) his replacement should be a priority come spring.

you know that feeling when you had a bad leak in your house, and you got a plumber to come in and get it tightened up and you just spent a lot of money on new floors.....you think you are good, and you want to not worry about it but you know inevitably you will probably have another leak again, its just a matter of time.

I'm 50/50 on Tyron. With neck and back issues I think those are legit concerns. If he stays, I just hope his body can hold up but I also know as a June 1st cut it gives Dallas 10 mill in cap savings. I think it is a bit of a tight rope when you are dealing with players getting up in age and with injuries mounting. Part of me has a loyalty to guys who have given so much to the team and yet another part that knows sometimes it is better to move on a year too early from a player than waiting a year too late. That is where I am with Tyron.
