5, second most important position to the entire offense imo.
To blindly "assume" full return to duty with Steele or Knight as full time options is not the right plan.

Not to hijack this thread but what about Collins as well?...

At least Martin could be a viable option there.
Even with all the needs on defense, and I agree, they are many, the offense will not function without a healthy left tackle that is far superior to the current depth chart behind Smitty.

Washington and New York as well(in the 2nd game)have shown how they handle the backups.

My .02

5. I'd trade him if I could get a fourth for him. His better days are behind him.

It's just a shame we had such a terrific line for so many years (like the Giants, the Hogs and the Cowboys of the 80s/90s) and we couldn't take advantage of it.

We've wasted so much talent on this team it's pitiful, and it's largely due to coaching and ownership. But I digress.

50% at best. Medical history after years in the NFL usually doesn't improve out of nowhere. Believe what your eyes show you regarding Tyron...elite talent that will no longer be able to play 16 games at that level without injury. See J.J. Watt.

I'll take this bet all day . There is no chance that was the reasoning behind it..this trend will definitely continue
What he said is literally what the media said early in the season.

75%. Either resign Cam Erving for cheap on another one year deal or draft an OT in the 2nd or 3rd as a back up plan. We don't need to spend the #10 pick on a LT.

The availability is starting to become a concern along with the "drive stalling holding calls" that were sneaking up on the stat line.

I don't think we should spend a 1st or 2nd rounder on his replacement but I would love to target a Trey Smith out of UTenn inthe 3rd/4th round and roll with the punches

I am at about 75% right now. Modern medicine has given a number of guys with that neck thing another 4-5 productive years. Moose's surgery was worse as they had to fuse vertebrae in his neck and he played 2-3 more years after. As long as there is no risk of direct injury to the spinal cord he should be good to go. But not a lot of details have been made known about his surgery so that gives me pause. I think the Cowboys would be stupid not to have a backup plan at this point. But I am not ready to spend a premium pick on it.

That is a great take. I completely disagree, I think it is time to put at least a second round pick on it. But I like what you brought up about the injury. I hope you’re right.

I may be way off here but, if you have a 40mil dollar QB the blind side is a main concern i would think. Dak don't need to break anything else.

Coming in a distant second to the 'Cut Tyrone Crawford (yesterday!)' mantra here at CZ is 'Trade Tyron for a 2nd \ 3rd round pick'. I'm in the minority to keep Smith --pending how he feels about his recovery and ability to play well one more season. However, after 9 stellar seasons (not counting 2020) the end is near. Finding (draft, FA) his replacement should be a priority come spring.
Manalive, if someone really offered a 2/3 for Tyron at this point in his career, we'd be beyond morons not to take it. However, no one's going to offer anywhere near that. His inury issues the last few years are well known.

Has there been any official medical news released on him lately?
I don't know where he is in his recovery process.

Cowboys' Tyron Smith: Progressing well from neck surgery
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Cowboys VP Stephen Jones said he expects Smith (neck) to be fully healthy to start the 2021 season, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.

The 29-year-old was ruled out for the season due to neck surgery in mid-October, but it appears the early stages of he recovery have been a success. Smith should reclaim his starting role at left tackle for 2021, while Cameron Erving fills in for this season.

Stephen talk...:)

Tyron's injury history gets overblown and he hasn't missed that many games. He had the nagging injury that's plagued him for the last 3 seasons surgically repaired and has had an entire season to heal. I expect him back to a dominant force along with the remainder of the offensive line in 2021 and I believe they'll again be the identity of the team.

Love the guy! Hate he has more behind him than IN front of him.

Is he one that you kind of go like this?

1. 25%

2. 50%

3. 75%

4. 100%

5. Need to spend a draft pick, he's done.

I'm nit sure if who they have now will or could be a permanent replacement, but Smith has missed games the last 3 years because of his neck and because of not being able to count on him to play entire seasons anymore, it's time they look to replace him. He was a very good LT but if he can't be counted on for an entire year, they need to get one that can be. Yes any player can get injured at any time, but Smith for the past 3 years has made a habit of it.

I don't know how anyone can be comfortable with Smith or Collins with both coming off of injuries and surgery. Smith has a neck issue and Collins had hip surgery. Both sound bad.

Having said that, I think the Cowboys need to depend on these guys for at least one more season. They have too many problems on defense. This doesn't mean they should ignore OL in the draft, or free agency, but the priority has to be defense.

I am hoping Steele improves with a real training camp in 2021. Knight is who he is, I think. Erving was a decent replacement for Smith but he couldn't stay healthy either.

Maybe they can find a guy in the 3rd round. But I'd rather solve the LG problem first.
