Last year cured me of having any expectations; I'm just going to settle back and watch it unfold and whatever happens, happens.

Yeah, I know it's a copout but that's the way I'm gonna take it - one game at a time and no expectations.

That's the way I always take it.

It's the NFL. I know we have a talented team, but so do a lot of other teams. And we all know that every year, teams that looked great the year before go in the toilet the next. It happens in this league.

So if we beat Cleveland, I'm going to have a great time enjoying it. And the same very week after, and every week after that. I feel sorry for the people who expect us to win so much each week that they can't enjoy the wins and only feel anger from the losses.

I don't think there is anything wrong with placing great expectation on a unit that has seen top draft picks and FA added to it. I do agree that any win is a good win but overall this defense needs to live up to the attention it has been given by the organization.

Yeah, I got sidetracked and was talking more about the team and winning each week.

But on defense, barring injury, I expect us to be very good this year -- probably a little better than last year as we have more flexibility (and talent) with our coverages and Spencer now thinks like a linebacker. Plus Zach is a big upgrade at ILB.

I agree with the premise that an ugly win is better than a pretty loss.

I expect big things out of Allan Ball this year. I know absolutly nothing (as most of this board would probably agree with :laugh2: ) however, Newman is singing his praises and I consider Newman to be a pretty good talent in his own right. Now, if Ball is impressing a guy like Newman, then I have to believe that there is something there.

I would not be surprised if Ball steps up and becomes our third CB.

...defensive assets hit the field in good health we should expect nothing less.

The past year there has been incessant talk about how defence friendly Wade's 3-4 is.

Expectations are high from both media and fans. Expectations are high from the players and many have not been shy to express it.

Jerry has done his part to do all he can to keep last year's contributors together and leave no stone unturned in the quest for the SuperBowl.

Draft pick rankings on the defensive side indicates we should have superior performance.

Since 93' I have never had as much confidence in a team as this year's squad. I don't think it's a pipe dream either. Nothing less would raise my ire and I have gone on record to say that if the team, especially the defense, performs poorly Wade Phillips is a goner.

There will be nothing less for "Mr. Fix It".

Quite frankly, I expect our defense to be dominating this year against the run and the pass. We're young and deep on the D line, we have playmakers at LB, and we have the most talented secondary we've had in a decade. With the $ that has been invested in this defensive unit, anything less than dominating will be disappointing.

  • I expect to at least be in the top 5 in total defense, points scored, turnovers, passing and against the run
  • I expect Ware to have around 15-16 sacks
  • I expect Spencer to have 9-10 sacks
  • I expect Roy to have a monster year, 120 tackles 5 int, 3.0 sacks
  • I expect to lead the league in overall sacks
  • I expect Thomas and James to have over 100 tackles apiece
  • I expect Wade to play alot of man to man bump and run defense which will allow for all that i just wrote to happen.

This is assuming Greg Ellis stops being a ******, Roy Williams gets his head on straight, there are no serious injuries and the offense goes to more ball control (keeping defense off field)......

Overall Defense = 7
Sacks = 48
INTS = 16
Points allowed per game = 19
