Not many know much about Chuck Brown and the new generation not even aware of the Go-Go music style unless they live around DC.
1986 he was inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
In 1992 He received Lifetime Achievement Grammy Award
Kennedy Center honoree in 2003
Chuck is royalty around here...esp any woman over 50..they will cut ya (jkn) Thinking of my aunties right now lol
I hear you brotha. I grew up here so all I knew was go go coming up. We still have shows around here but the youngins are definitely into rap exclusively. There's some who know the history of it bc you hear it in cars from the older folks like me...fact: if you see an ol car cranking go go..stay AWAY... ends up smells like gun powder and cologne in there :)

Barely...you from the area? I shoulda said excl to folks over 30, we still play it all the time (Backyard is my go to) :) They tried to stop that store owner down from playing it outside Ga/FLA Ave glad he prevailed after people got wind. I still go to 14th/15th Hobart to visit old friends all the time (totally different than 90s when it was a rougher spot) but it's all basically gentrified now except a few section 8 spots. That liquor store on 15th never carded...mad dog yak memories come to mind :D

Tell me about it I lived 3 summers in DC in the 80's( from south Cali)... butt i still remember it vividly they used to warren us from going there...I don't know about it now it has been long time since i was there but from the sound it they cleaned it up
was great time lovely music wish i can go back to that time and feel it as an adult.

For my Wu-Tang heads...remember Shyheim? He was annointed the youngest WU member of all time. Kid/Man just got out of prison for doing 14! I have his first CD to this day. I rocked this in high school late 90's. I always wondered what happened to him. I sat in my room with the old panasonic 20 inch bass players! Crazy.
