Stars are guys I consider to be The Dude with little debate. The other guys, you can make an argument for or against.

Moss has to be in a debate with TO (whose career numbers were strikingly similar) and CJ.

Sanders has to be in a debate with Payton and Emmitt.

Gronk has to be in a debate with Tony Gonzalez.

Green has to be in a debate with the other 2 guys you listed, as well as Rod Woodson and Charles Woodson.

Polamalu absolutely has to be in a debate with Ronnie Lott.

Patterson has to be in a debate with Cribbs.

In fact, I'd say all of those guys lose those debates.

Still, I enjoyed your list and I appreciate that you took the time.

Take out Johnston and add in Neal. I think Neal did great blocking for different teams and can argue that the running backs weren’t as productive once he left the team.

Emmitt played 15 years, Sanders 10. I think we all know that Barry had plenty left in the tank. Emmitt beats him by about 3,000 yards. Pretty sure Sanders gets more than that in five more years of playing. Emmitt averaged 81 yards per game, whereas Sanders averaged 99. That's a big gap. Emmitt also had a much better O-line and coaching. I have to go with Sanders.
All great points. However if your life depended on, moving the chains, getting in the end zone or winning the game, who you picking? I am going Emmitt all day every day. The thing that he and Michael Irvin brought every game that cant be measured was "win or die trying" mentality. Something this team has lacked since.

Not too bad at all. But exchange Sanders at RB and put in Emmitt.

My homer pick is exchange Fitzgerald with Michael Irvin. His passion and toughness over the middle was great.
Irvin caught 12 passes vs Deion in the playoffs in one game, a top 10 all time cover corner. Irvin was unguardable.

No one caugth 12 passes on Deion.

Forget the old farts with the leather helmets and minimal athleticism. So when putting this team together, yes there are some other players that might have been better like Sapp over Wilfork but I built this team as to how great the team would be together, not individually. Yes, one could really argue Emmitt over Barry too but Barry just could house it with not much on offense, couldn't imagine what he could do with this team.

"all-time from 1980" Well then it isnt all time, is it?

You will get pushback from lots of people that have absurd Cowboy’s bias, but you did good here. Agree completely on Sanders over Smith or Payton and I watched lots of Sanders and Payton.

A couple of differences that I have: Cortez Kennedy over Wilfork. Neal over Johnston. And though his production does not always get noticed-Steve Smith Sr over Fitzgerald. He was so unstoppable for so long and did it at diminutive size. The super bowl Carolina got to with him, he was their best player. He played very well with Baltimore after playing 13 seasons with a Carolina. He never got to play with a tremendous offense, HOF or even very good QB, or great other players. It was usually all on him and he would deliver big time plays against all odds in the biggest moments. He was always tremendous in the playoffs (if they actually made it).

If you could guarantee health I'd consider Bo. Tough to beat 5.4 ypc for a career. He was playing baseball, too.
I don't disagree. Nevertheless, I view this more as a look at who actually was the greatest during the time period rather than who could have been if circumstances played out differently

Yeah. If we're going off just their prime, I'd probably put Earl Campbell in there, too.

Watching Earl run through, around, past and away from defenders was a heck of a lot of fun.

Walter Payton still had some outstanding years through much of the 1980's as well, so he could be in the discussion. Dickerson could be part of it too.

Good team, but I’d say Megatron was quite a bit better than Fitz

I already know I'm going to catch some heat for the Manning pick over Tom Brady, so let me explain. 2008-2013 PFM was the highest summit of QB play I have ever seen (Rodgers has visited there occasionally). IMO, he was robbed by being 2 years older than Brady and his neck injuries, which both cost him valuable seasons in the NFL's 2010s hyper-passing era.

We now watch a where Kirk Cousins can throw for 4000 yards regularly. Brady has cruised along in that era and put together good seasons, but the only times I've seen him hit that "tapping into the Matrix" level of play is the late 2010s. Same thing with Rodgers - he hits incredible peaks occasionally, but most of the time floats around the level of really good. Manning was just locked into super-screw you mode from 2008 on, and his neck was the only thing stopping that run of play from continuing.

I think you’re underselling Woodson. He’s the only CB to get league DMVP since Deion, and he was an All Pro all the way up to 35 years old

If you are picking the best RB since 1980 then don't forget about Bo Jackson.

LT was an absolute beast. Grossly underrated because he played for Chargers.
When I was contemplating doing a full 53 it was going to be Barry, Emmitt, and either LT or TD Terrell Davis. TD was such an unstoppable force for a while.
