Never had 1000 yard season and more than 5 TDs. He had some huge plays but can't pass on Barry or Emmitt for him.

He also never played a full season or had a training camp. He always came over after the baseball season. He might not ultimately be as good as Emmitt or Barry but he shouldn't be out of the conversation either.

Emmitt played 15 years, Sanders 10. I think we all know that Barry had plenty left in the tank. Emmitt beats him by about 3,000 yards. Pretty sure Sanders gets more than that in five more years of playing. Emmitt averaged 81 yards per game, whereas Sanders averaged 99. That's a big gap. Emmitt also had a much better O-line and coaching. I have to go with Sanders.

The proof is in the postseason.

Emmitt produced during money time.

And look at their TDs, receiving yards and ability to pass block.

Emmitt was the ultimate RB.

Barry was all flash, Emmitt was pure substance.

I think you’re underselling Woodson. He’s the only CB to get league DMVP since Deion, and he was an All Pro all the way up to 35 years old

I'd take Charles Woodson over Champ Bailey. 62 Interceptions, 33 Forced Fumbles, and 1200 tackles (twice as much as Ed Reed, a HOF safety as an example). And as you said, was NFL Defensive MVP.

You make a fair point about Woodson. I discounted him in favor of Green, because Woodson was put into a "star" role that allowed him to ballhawk and put up flashy plays and counting stats, while Green was a pure cover guy who was invisible when he did his job right. But I can't discount Woodson for being a freelancer, then call Troy Polamalu the GOAT for being a freelancer.

Who's coaching--Jimmy, Parcells, or Garrett?

If there was a ‘DB’ position on this hypothetical team then that’s where I would place Charles Woodson — he played CB, Safety, Nickel corner, and rover in his HOF career.

Controversial take: Diggs reminds me a bit of Woodson… always happens to be in right place at the right time.. but not always fundamentally sound.

You are eliminating 31 years of NFL history based on a condition that didn't exist. Leather helmets went away in 1949

Minimal athleticism?

Another false premise.......unless you want to convince me that guys like Bob Hayes, Jim Brown, and Gale Sayers had "minimal athleticism". Some of Olympic Gold medalist Bob Hayes track records have yet to be broken.

It would be more correct to say that 1980 to the present was the period of time in which rules were changed to protect players from getting hurt, thus, allowing them to utilize their superior athleticism.

Earl Campbell and Jim Brown are both top 5 all time and would dominate in any era.

When I was contemplating doing a full 53 it was going to be Barry, Emmitt, and either LT or TD Terrell Davis. TD was such an unstoppable force for a while.
Agree. And if you're going on short career guys, Jamaal Lewis was an absolute monster for a few years.
