When all the smoke clears and we've bench raced this coaching hire to death I think we're going to come up with the fact that any coach hired is only going to be as successful as Jerry will let them be.
I fully understand everyone's upset with this lackluster coaching hire.
Looking at his record it's nothing to write home about.

Every sports show is talking about how cheap Jerry is

How successful can you be as a coach when your handcuffed by a front office that won't spend any money in free agency.

Would Belichick want to be made a fool of at the end of his career handcuffed by Jerry.

I believe Jerry was flat out afraid that coach prime would steal all his thunder and would become the face of the franchise that's why he didn't get hired he was too big of a personality it would be like Jimmy again but even bigger and more popular.
Even McCarthy was done with the circus and doesn't want to get involved with the saints dysfunction either.
At this point I believe the only people that will take this coaching job are guys with nothing to lose.

Jerry flat out will not give any coach enough tools to do the job completely just enough to hang around the rim as he says.

I think Brian schottenheimer is as good as we're going to get with Jerry in charge from what the news media are saying things have taken a turn and no one wants to take their turn on this carousel of failure your thoughts
How can anyone watch that PC and think JJ is not a narcissistic, senile old man?

He and his son are 100% of the problem in Dallas, as you point out.

IMO— Big Mike should have been fired after the GB loss— so we have been behind the 8 Ball for over a year.

I am not surprised that they chose a HC that makes Dak comfortable and allows him to focus on getting healthy and maximizing his output within the framework of the scheme.

The fact that Brian’s contract is tied directly to Dak’s tells us all we need to know: they have a 4 year window to get it done.

I don’t blame Brian for this mess, and I wish him the best. He seems like a genuinely sincere guy. The players support him, and he certainly has some years of experience to help shape his initial opportunity to be a HC.

The least the FO can do is spend some money and surround Dak with the talent he needs to be successful

I agree McCarthy should have been fired directly after that Green Bay game but instead Jerry was so cheap and vindictive he refused to pay him for a year and not have him actually working for the Cowboys that purposely set him up for failure giving him nothing to work with.

What amazes me is that Jerry would have no conscience about wasting a full year of all the players careers, a year for the fans and a year of his life if winning was really what he was concerned about.

It proves even more conclusively to me that holding on to every cent and not spending any money is what's important to him.

The arrogance of he and that son of his knows no bounds

The fact remains that we regressed in the Head Coach selection of Schottenheimer. McCarthy>Schottenheimer

They value being comfortable even if it means losing then being uncomfortable and winning. They were never going to be comfortable with a Bill B or Prime. Coaches like that may have given them better odds to win but that doesn’t matter. They want to personally like the coach which turns the culture into a country club.

My gut tells me Jerry did not want to spend a lot of money on a big name coach because he already knows this offseason will be as bad as, if not worse, than last off-season. He knows that will result in a poor record and he is okay with that.

If Jerry hires a big time coach with a good reputation, when they lose again, the light shines brightly on Jerry again. The expectations for Dallas will be low next year because Schottenheimer does not move the needle for anybody. When they lose, it will be easy to point the finger at Schottenheimer.

But failure of this team is 100% on Jerry and Stephen Jones. They call all the shots. Ultimately, they hire everyone so the results are theirs and theirs alone.

I think you're right if he doesn't plan on participating in free agency and going all out there would be no sense hiring a big-name coach that was going to expect him to.

Coach prime and Bill Belichick are not going to accept a second-rate roster for Jerry's comfort and pocketbook security not to mention they are two personalities that are much bigger in football than Jerry's and would take the spotlight from him.

He can't stand toe to toe with these guys their credentials are too much for him to override so he chooses just to avoid them.

That said a guy like Shotty who's thrilled with any bone Jerry would throw him and will accept whatever roster Jerry provides and make do with it is more what Jerry's looking for I believe
