If it is any consolation to you, I think we are much closer to "when" than "if" we fire Garrett. And that is a good thing. The league is changing very rapidly and we need someone who can adapt and get the most out of what we have.

Garrett is going to win a division title and earn a playoff berth this year. He isn't going anywhere.

Opie cannot be compared to Shaw. Opie would not even be qualified enough to be on Shaw's Stanford squad. Shaw is a Dream Coach for us. He is qualified and has paid his dues in the NFL and the College Ranks. We just need Jerry/Stephen to "See the Light" and stop being blinded (or Blackmailed) by Opie.

I think he would be the best hire since JJ.

Sorry to break it to you but as long as Jerry is in charge it won't matter who you bring in.

I totally disagree. Jerry does not develop the Offensive and Defensive Game Plans. Jerry does not have input on the In Game adjustments. Jerry does not manage the Clock. Jerry does not develop the players. Jerry does not put them in the best position to maximize their abilities/talent.

We can blame Jerry for poor Free Agent Signing decisions, Trades, Salary Cap Mangement, and Hiring Head Coaches but once the Regular Season begins the Head Coach is fully responsible and accountable. Opie is one of the highest paid HCs even though his Teams' performances each year are average at best.

Funny part is that Jerry Fired Laundry, Campo, Gailey, Wade etc yet he just cannot seem to come to grips to fire Opie. He must think that Opie is the second coming of Sean Payton and he does not want to let him get away to flourish with another organization.

have you seen stanford play?

and fyi shaw has actually coached longer in the nfl than opie.

That is one of my biggest gripes about Garrett. May be a good HC someday, but he got handed the reins way, way too early.

When Sean Payton was stripped of his playcalling duties in NY, he had more years of coaching experience than Garrett has now.

Good resume. NFL experience combined with college Head Coaching experience is an optimal background.

I don't think Garrett gets fired under any circumstance this year. Callahan on the other hand, could be in trouble.

If they keep Garrett, but pull his offense off the table and bring in an entirely new offense and OC, I'd be as happy as I could probably be under those circumstances.

It is still dysfunctional, but I'm getting used to that in Dallas. Would be really nice to do things like a normal, well run organization for a change.

Jerry Jones wants to be "the man". He has gone out of his way finding coaches that wouldn't step on his toes when it came to this fact. Parcells was the exception but that was out of desperation...he knew he had to do something to get the team back on the front page so he brought in a big name.

I don't know how you could look at this team and not know where the problem lies. When your owner is telling a coach during interviews that he won't be choosing his OC because he chose him for him you end up with either retreads who are desperate for one more shot or first timers that are desperate for their first shot. No way a proven coach with past success would accept a position with a condition like that.

Just my opinion.

doubt we could get him. why would he want to leave one of the most prestigious, well recruiting programs in the country? then come to this mess we have in Dallas..

Working under a singular president, gm, CEO, owner, co-coach, and aspiring player in Jerry Jones

Yeah, why would a college coach want to move up to the big leagues for the biggest, most glamorous coaching job in all of American Sports...

First of all he had nine-year run as an NFL assistant coach with stints for the Philadelphia Eagles, Oakland Raiders, and Baltimore Ravens.. Second he was hand chosen by Jim Harbaugh.. And third his teams are hard nosed.. good tacklers and he knows how to play the spread, run option and hurry up offenses...

Is he a Yes-man? Jerry only hires yes-men. He only hires coaches that are OK not being able to pick their own staff and tolerate a meddling GM and an owner that can't keep his trap shut.

Very well said. I dont follow college football, so I cannot comment about this particular coach. But with this clown GM of ours constantly in the middle of everything, it reduces the size of the pool of coaches. We have at least another season of JG anyway. Probably two more. Jerry has plenty of people he can axe and plenty of other excuses to use....this will buy Garrett more time.

I definitely want him on the short list... I think he's the next great young NFL coach in the making.

I would say that some coaches don't care to work for a owner/GM that won't get out of the way and let them do their job. Some coaches will not take a job unless they have a certain amount of control and make no mistake, Jerry is in control. I don't think coaching the Cowboys means as much as it did at one time.

I don't know much about College Football tbh. Does he have the same "presence" as Harbaugh? Can't argue with the team's success since Luck/JH's departures.

That is way too much effort to keep such an average HC, but like you said, dysfunctional anyway, gotta get creative :)
