When did Garrett Become Smart to Outsmart Himself

The back to back fade calls were pretty much universally recognized as mistakes. And second-guessing the running plays yesterday is easy to do after the fact, but it doesn't mean that it wasn't a perfectly acceptable call.

I disagree with both points Idgit. I remember posters blaming Roy W for not coming down with the first fade and Bennett for a poor route on the 2nd.

As for the running plays, like I said I don't have a problem with them running all 4 downs.

On the 4th down play Phil Simms pointed out that he does not like pulling lineman on short yardage plays.

IMO, you will find many football people who share that point of view.

People had problems with both the play calls *and* the execution on the goal line fades. IIRC, the consensus (or at least the opinion I agreed with) was pretty much that one fade made sense but two in a row was a mistake. On the pass to Martellus in particular, Martellus went up and Tony threw low. That wasn't just a bad play call, but it wasn't a good play call.

Phill Simms may not like pulling linemen, but that doesn't necessarily mean that there was anything wrong with the play selection. It doesn't matter to me all that much either way. There's no excuse for not being able to run for one yard on four tries against a beat-up front. I'd have called nothing but inside runs in that situation, too.

So it's 2nd and goal from the 1, what are the odds that Barber gets the yard if you give it to him 3 times if necesary, how many of us said "just give it to Barber" before 2nd down. I bet that a lot of the posters that are blaming Garrett thought exactly that.

I'm sorry but this one is on the players. So was Folk missing a FG in a three point loss.

I can only speak for myself, but I said 'ram it down their damn throat' before each snap.

did we have a wr on the field for any of those 4 runs? ya know to just spread them out a little bit maybe taking a corner and safety out of the play if Roy was in.

I guarantee that if they did that and failed on the play action, the same people who are complaining about the runs would be up in arms about not giving Barber another chance.

Nope but yeah it may have opened things up.

Oh well, at least we tried the most logical option at that point...
