I've noticed it in the past with good guys like Dan Campbell, then I heard "bad guys" like TO (I will never have problem with him asking for more money, capitalism...) say "Bill", and now a rookie, Bobby Carpenter.

I don't care, and I'm not one of those idiot old timers who get mad or think its wussy when Emmitt dances, hey man, those girls are usually pretty damn hot, no point in being a redneck to slap ***** with your buddies if you ask me...but that's off the point.

When did players start calling the coaches by the first name, especially rookies? The only person I ever hear say coach is Tom Jackson, he always says Coach Parcells...

This has nothing to do with team performance or julius vs. marion or drew vs tony, just a question...

About the same times kids quite saying Yes sir and no sir, thank you or excuse me.

I have heard them mix it up....

"Bill"
"Parcells"
"Coach Parcells".....

In the world of NFL coaches... Bill Parcells is more BILL or PARCELLS than COACH.... kinda like Cher
:laugh2:

I think I'm a 33 year old "idiot old-timer"! I think you show respect to a coach and you don't call him by his first name. Personally, I'm a college professor with a Ph.D., and I can't call my superiors by their first name. I think it's the same with college students--they shouldn't call their professors by their first name. Thanks for the opportunity to rant.

I always had professors who preferred to be called by their first name. I couldn't bring myself to do that, so I just said Professor.

But I don't think a name carries that much meaning to everyone. For some people, it is a matter of respect. For some, it's just something to call them.

I believe I heard this on "In Their Own Words", and I'm paraphrasing here, but one of the players called him "Sir." He responded by saying his name wasn't sir, it's Bill.

Its football man.... "we talkn bout addressn.... addressn" "addressn?"

Are we playing sports or working in an office?

I remember that, too... They even had Romo his rookie year saying, "Yes sir" and Parcells saying, "It's Bill, not sir. This ain't the Army." :laugh2:

I teach part time at a community college and I insist they call me by my first name. Mr.CanadianCowboysFan was my dad, not me. I'm just David.

As for stopping calling coach "coach" probably started when the players began making more money than their coach.

I agree its a sign of respect. One of my bosses always tells me to call him by his first name but hes done a ton for me professionally and I respect him a a lot so I find it hard if not impossible to call him by his first name. To me he will be Mr. Hatch, maybe Im old school but that is the way I was raised.
