When do we sign Gramatica to long term deal?

If he remains clutch he might be offered a multiple year deal but I expect Dallas to still bring him competition for training camp.

It does -- when you are signing someone coming off consistent performances -- when someone has had two crap years and one year out of the league then those good years start to mean squat.

Not true. He was brought in by Indy and Pats. Perception and Reality. Perception was that he was finishe. Reality was he was injured.
 
i thought jerry made it pretty clear that he was'nt gonna give big money to a kicker

Reality also was that 32 other guys were deemed to be better kickers. Even after Gramatica was healthy? You don't think that other teams scout's follow pre-season? You don't think the Pats have other teams come to their camp to scout?

Isn't it clear? Folks here think we will sign Gramatica to a 5 year deal for minimum salaries, but with a series of performance incentives. You know, the kind of contract that gets agents debarred.

I would not be suprised to see Dallas offer Gramatica a 2 to 3 year deal if things work out for the remainder of the season. I don't think Dallas will spend near the money they did for Vandy
 
No reason to jump the gun after ONE GAME. The past weekend showed us how important kickers are in the game of football, but there's a reason he's been essentially out of action for 3 years.

He was injured!!!!!!!

I mean, it is too early to tell if he has gotten his form back, but if he has he is a very good kicker!

I agree it is 1 game and Dallas does not need to deal with any thought of a contract extention until the season is over and we have seen more out of Gramatica.

I think they were all skidish because of the injury(those that knew) and they previous 2 years of poor kicking.

Obvioulsy BILL kept an eye on it for what it was and not what it appeared to be. Thank you Bill.
 
Again - if Gramatica DOES prove his worth through the end of this season, I see no reason why management would not want to lock him up for 2-3 years to prevent someone else from offering him a better contract.

If we offer him a league minimum for one year and he's offered a 3 year deal with some incentives from another ball club, who do you think he's going to sign with?

Of course, this is all contingent on his ability to perform and remain consistent this year.
 
as of right now, I'm confident in him. which doesnt mean Imma make em the next Vinatieri. but anyway, we have to wait and see the next couple of games

How about Dungy? You don't think he talks to Denny Green, Herm Edwards, and Lovie Smith?

Agree we wait to see what he does rest of the year before we discuss resigning him. But if he does a good job for us--80% range--strongly doubt he would work for the vet minimum which I think is around $700,000? but I really don't know amount. Frankly Vinetarie has pushed kicker salaries considerably up as did Longwell, Vanderjagt and I'm sure that Josh Brown, Seattle's FG kicker who will become FA after this year and has already made 4clutch kicks to win 4 games for them won't be cheap; Seattle who drafted Brown will do what is necessary to resign him.

If we low ball Gramatica, I don't think he will give us that big a discount and other teams (Commanders who having trouble with their kickers unless Sushism works out) will do what is necessary probably to get him.

Frankly, if Gramatica kicks well for us I do believe Jerry Jones will part with the money necessary to keep him as long as his demands aren't in the Vinetarie range. I'm thinking $1.5M with SB and/or incentives.
 
I don't think they should do anything right now, let's see how it plays out...I mean this guy was out there and no one really was that interested in him. I don't think one game winning FG will change him a must have...at least not for right now.

It would not be the first time a team was "hesitant" to bring a previously injured player in(like hesitant better?)

It was Bill's call. He wasnt just hoping on Gramatica. He spoke pretty confidently about him based on his complete understanding of the situation before and after.

You make some very good points. Especially the Skins.. they would Schill the Grammy auction.... we dont want that LOL

Look, I am not saying sign him to a long term deal now... I just think it may be wise to do so before it gets out of hand...
