When do we start to wonder about Melton?

Obviously, I am glad they are going conservative with him, but apparently, he is behind schedule on rehab. If he is unable to participate in minicamp, are you concerned? If he misses preseason games, what then?

A bit soon to be worried at this point. In fact, considering what Z. Martin did to Lee, it's probably for the best.

There is no need to panic. It does no good either way, all you started when making this thread is a "Jerry Jones is a fool" atmosphere.

Not worried about Melton. He's already on the field doing some work and we are nearly 2 months away from TC.

The mystery is Okoye. All I see is "medical issues" which apparently has kept him off the field for 2 years.

i don't think they ever expected him to participate in ota's.

That's what I thought, too, but don't remember why. He was doing walk throughs or drills at the OTAs anyway, right?

Melton will be on PUP to start the season as will Spencer. Melton plays in about 6 games this year, Spencer - 0

Yeah, but Okoye isn't supposed to be the linchpin of this defense.

Why do you say "apparently he's behind schedule on rehab"? I thought the plan all along was to not have him participate until training camp.

Regardless, I'd be concerned if he's still being held out by the time preseason rolls around.

The Cowboys don't expect to see Melton until training camp so I don't wonder about him until then.

Yea, the Okoye thing is sort of concerning, since everyone seems to be so tight lipped about why he didn't play last year. Have any of the details been disclosed at all? I mean, it's his business, but it's hard to know what kind of contribution to expect from this dude.

Interesting. That's the 1st I've seen anything like that about Melton.

According to reports from yesterday he was active at the OTA though, in at least some capacity, which is a good sign.

If he's not rolling by preseason I'll be concerned.

I know people loved picking up Melton, and I have to agree with them. We got him basically on a one-year rental contract with the option to renew. However, the renewal will not be worth it. I hope he plays well this season, but regardless of how he plays, I don't want to see him in a Dallas jersey next year. I don't remember the specifics of the contract, but I know if we renew him, it'll basically be another Ratliff contract to a guy who'll be nearing 30. No thank you. Even when he was playing at his peak, he wasn't worth that kind of money. He was never Geno Atkins or Gerald McCoy good. Next year's draft will be all about MLB and 3-tech.

Edit: And I want to add another thing. Most of us here think Crawford would make a better SDE in this defense. We might be right. But, so far all indications show the coaching staff is pretty adament about teaching Crawford how to play the 3-tech. This has me thinking we have no intentions of renewing Melton next year.
