Pitts can't be covered in the redzone. He would be absolutely awesome in the Cowboy offense.
I absolutely agree he is an insane red zone nightmare.
No question there.
Dallas specific fit is where it gets very murky.
Anyone can use a good red zone target and Pitts is the best of the bunch.
BUT it is very much underselling Pitts to bring him in as TE2 and a RZ target alone.
You don't do that to the guy.
He's a 245 pound Aaron Hernandez type dude and to keep him happy and developing you need to play him as a primary option in the offense.
He's not going to excel in secondary roles.
Dallas was leading the league in scoring last year when Dak injured his ankle.
They should never turn their nose up at talent but you do have to balance the scales of offense versus defense and facts are:
Dallas used 2019R1 in trade for Amari Cooper.
Dallas used 2020R1 on falling CeeDee Lamb.
They paid Amari Cooper
They paid Zeke Elliot
They paid Dak Prescott.
They paid Tyron, Zack, La'el.
On defense they have 1 R1 draftee on the roster. Sensational when healthy but almost never healthy LVE.
They let CB1 Byron Jones walk.
They need to replace that guy.
Doesn't mean reach in R1 but if Kyle Pitts is this team's 5th best player and Sewell is 6th and Surtain is 7th?? You draft the ...
You aren't going to find another Kyle Pitts this draft and perhaps 3-4 more.
But if what he gives you is only really special on about 5% of all offensive plays can you forsake a guy who will undoubtedly help you every defensive or offensive play??
For me that's a no.
If drafted imho:
Kyle Pitts becomes my HBack, TE3 and my big slot (WR4). Ditch the two RB plays and Pitts is my move guy. Fun toy for sure. I'd probably get him in about 50% of all offensive plays as a rookie. ---This isn't crazy low. CeeDee got 64% with a firm job day 1 as a starter. And Pitts would eventually grow into TE1 and give you a Witten type target for Dak for a decade. But it might be 2-3 years before he hit his prime.
P Sewell: Day 1 he starts at LG. He moves to LT if Tyron misses any time. He ends up at LT for a decade plus. You'd forecast him to 95% of snaps. Decent chance he can make a Pro Bowl as a rookie LG then move to LT and make some Pro Bowls there.
P Surtain: Day 1 he becomes CB1/2 with his "brother" Trevon Diggs. They share a lot of bonds not least of which is NFL relatives who paved the way and showed them how to train like a pro. You'd forecast him to 90% of snaps.
Of these 3 guys I have to change Pitts body a bit. He needs 10 pounds at least. Maybe 15.
The other 2 are good to go day 1 as they are the prototype size.
