When is capable not enough

Trade Collins to get back in the first round. He doesn't want to play on the inside of the line. His contract is up after this season. Get some value and draft a swing Tackle with talent and get ready to replace Smith.
There’s no way we could get a first round pick for La’El Collins.

if this is the case OG are pretty much every lineman in he draft. If anything you do not see a lot of pure interior lineman in the draft most of the lineman that come from college now seem to be either OC or OTs and if you are not a highly rate player at those positions you get turned into a guard.

OG Quentin Nelson was the best player in the draft last year. And he made All Pro as a rookie and helped to transform the entire Colts line from bums to arguably the best in the league.

I said there are not a lot of pure interior lineman. If you look many rookie guards are usually converted college tackles.

So you're moving in to the first round to draft a T to replace Collins. Ok. Then a swing T later to eventually replace Smith I assume. Let's see if we draft a FA T, that will tell us if T is on the radar. FA signees and inteviewees always tell what these cats are thinking. They sign mid- low level FA's and draft the same position to cover their butts
What about the guy we got from KC that got hurt in TC - can he play OT?

I think that’s because they put their best guys on the edge because you can help the guards easier
Those college tackles with shorter arms become guards in the nfl

I am going FA for quality depth on O-Line. You can’t have stars waiting to play or rotate in. Looney did amazing for what he did. We will be lucky to keep him. He would be a starter for most teams.

I thought Tyron's back looked better this year than last. Maybe he's getting over the hump on it.

Though you pooh pooh it, I think Williams at swing T is likely. We've got SuaFilo, Looney, and Ehinger all under contract and able to compete for LG.

Not poo pooing Williams at T bbdd, there just isn't indication yet that the team will do it. No water cooler office talk. We'll have to wait until training camp to see if they try him at T. Add some weight and strength in the off season with a year of experience and I think he's going to be a nice player

Yes, good depth at G. Throw Marcus Martin in that pool too. Sucked that he missed every 2018 game with an injury

I believe that our entire office is predicated on a strong oline. Without a dominate o-line, we don't even seem competitive. Though they aren't sexy picks, I'd take at least one o-lineman in one of the top 3 rounds every single year.

You really think we can get a first for Collins?

I’d like to see those guys in TC without injury. Don’t know how Collins grades out in the league, but I think he struggles.

True enough about what they've done with Williams. But he was a T and plays like a T. Maybe the thought will occur to them. I assumed moving Williams to RT was the plan all along.

We're looking at 4 10mil olinemen this year, and that can't go on forever. Collins is not up to the quality that they should be signing an extension for. We'll need a RT. Oh, whaddya know, we actually drafted a T in the second round a couple of years ago. If that isn't the plan, they're totally unprepared for dealing with Collins hitting free agency.

Martin isn't signed, and I doubt we sign him with SuaFilo, Looney, Ehinger, and Redmond already under contract for next year.

It think long arms are really important for tackles
He has the feet to play tackle but he has short arms
I think he will get reps at tackle but in the end I think he’s a guard

I'll take great feet over an extra inch in the arms.
Lacks core body strength for G. It will get better, but it's clearly a weakness, even relative to tackles.

Great feet but limited core strength sounds more like a T than a G to me.

Why are we even talking about drafting OL? Or trading up for OL. If we are gonna trade away top talent to trade up then get a 1st round QB

No. Not even close. Collins looked better at T at the end of last year than this year. He's overpriced at RT with an elite contract and better than average but not great performance.

Straight up, I'd much rather use a 1st to draft the best available T in round one than sign Collins.
