When is the last time anybody has actually seen Drew Henson?

Some were speculating that we'd see Romo in clean up duty over on the other board during the game.

I didn't expect it or want to see it.

If Romo got the nod to end the game, he would've come in and done nothing but hand the ball off and maybe throw a dink pass or two.

What would be the point?

If the coaches would stay aggressive and allow Romo to come in and run the system, I'd be all for it, but they wouldn't because the situation calls for being conservative and protecting the ball.

Romo isn't going to get any meaningful snaps this season unless Bledsoe suffers an injury, and none of us want that to happen, IMO.
If he has to come in I'd prefer he not be a virgin. It's that simple.

What other board? There are others?

:wink2:

Not wanting in on this topic but was anyone else discouraged that Romo didn't get some snaps in mop up? I don't get why Bledsoe was still in there.

Parcells probably told Bledsoe he was staying in to work on the QB/Center exchange.

Very understandable.

It's not that I have anything against giving Romo garbage snaps in a blowout win, it's just that I don't feel it will prepare him for having to lead the team if called upon.

There simply isn't a good way to get a young reserve quarterback meaningful game action in the NFL. He will only see the field at the end of a blowout victory or defeat and neither is an ideal learning situation, IMO.

Basically, all you can hope for is to have a guy who's seasoned in your system for a few seasons and be lucky to have a defense, running game and/or special teams to make his job as easy as possible.

How does he get prepared to lead the team if called upon then?

Mental reps?

I'd like the quarterback to have a few seasons of just watching and learning the NFL on the sideline, which Romo has been fortunate to do in Big D.

But nothing really prepares a signal caller for getting the nod and becoming responsible for leading a team on the field.

Some of them have "it", others don't.

Is there any way to know until the player is called upon?

Belichick and Pioli didn't know what they had sitting on the bench in New England before Bledsoe got injured.

Only prolonged starting experience will show you what you've got in a quarterback. And then you must also take into account the state of the team, offensive scheme, etc. to come to a final conclusion.

I'll take actual reps in mop up over mental reps.

I wish he'd gotten a shot today.

Again, there's nothing wrong with that. It certainly wouldn't hurt Romo to get off his arse and enter a game for a spell, even if it was just to hand the ball off to the running backs.

I'm just thinking about the big picture.

Even limited starting experience (3-4 games) won't tell you what you've got in a quarterback. Defenses need about half a seasons worth of games on a QB to truly get a feel for what he's capable of and to formulate gameplans designed to stop him.

That's when you find out if the quarterback is the man and a long term answer or just a stop gap solution, IMO.

I'm not asking to know what we have in him. To do that would require more than mop up duty and to be truthful I don't think he's good enough for that.

I just think we know more if he gets some reps. Today was an opportunity lost....again.
