When was the last time we heard this from our QB? Is Dak not given teedom to kill a play that's called? Or does he just not read deffenses really well?
They use some RPOs where Dak decides whether to hand off or pass. It's not always obvious to fans because he does not always fake the hand-off like the typical RPO. When it is a hand-off you can only tell by watching 1 or 2 receivers that it was an RPO type play design because everyone else is executing the run part of the Run-Pass option.
RPO:
The QB decides whether to pass the ball or hand-off.
The OL is primarily run blocking and some of the WRs/TEs are run blocking.
Between 1 and 3 receiving options (WRs/TEs) execute it as a pass play.
The decision is either partially or completely made pre-snap.
Sometimes the QB fakes a hand-off and then passes.
Other times he just passes.
Obviously it's possible that the QB ends up running on any play but an RPO is not a designed run by the QB per se.
The option is to get the best match-up depending on how the defense aligns.
Play Fake (Play Action):
Everyone executes a pass play but the QB/RB fake a run play. The play is like most pass plays except for the fake hand-off.
Read Option:
The QB moves forward as he is handing off to the RB and has the option to keep the ball and run with it himself based on his "read" of a specific defender (usually the DE).
The Read Option is a run play all the way.
