I read an article that the new thing to do when negotiating contracts is for players to delete the team from their social media accounts, in a means to get negotiations going. As fans we see this, and get mad with the player thinking they don't like the team.

With that said we have several players coming up for new deals, if you see Diggs or someone else do that KNOWING they all say "I want to be a cowboy for life", yet when it's time for a new deal, they use this new tactic.

Has anyone noticed this, is it effective? Once the player signs with the team, they always end up saying "I love this team, it was never about the money!" Lol oh give me a break! Please give your thoughts!!

All pro sports contract negotiations are full of posturing- on both sides. Remember when Stephen Jones says, “We won’t set the market at any position”, it means the Cowboys are about to set the market, lol. As they did in the Zeke contract, Dak’s deal, and as they surely will be doing with the Micah Parsons deal in a couple of years.

It's business. A player can both love their team and still seek the best contract possible. It is not a convoluted concept.

Yea they all do it. It doesn't mean anything.

I bet more than half of players don't even manage their own social media.

Who cares what they do with their SM accounts. I'm for all of them deleting their accounts so they don't say stupid crap that they can't take back

But by doing this haze is not like we're hiding anything as if it's a draft pick or potential free agent interest. Just say it and do it lol, but hey it's Jerry always has to keep us in the news

IMO, it doesn't make a bit of difference.
Let Kelvin Joseph do that. The team will say, "Keep rolling. Nice knowing ya!"
Teams know which players they want to keep.
The players do too.
Lamar Jackson can pull that stunt.
Tyler Huntley can't.
And I doubt it has an effect on management.
Management is used to these antics. Back in the day it was not appearing at training camp.
But somehow, except for rare cases, player and team kiss and make out as if nothing happened.

I think it’s more of a public declaration of how negotiations are going than some kind of threat against the team.

Take Lamar Jackson, for instance. He acknowledged outright that he demanded a trade, but specified it was never about not wanting to be a Raven but about the offers they were giving him being unacceptable. They needed a kick in the pants. So I think you can pull these social media ploys and still genuinely want to stay with that organization.

I don't do social media so I don't care. And if I did use it, I still wouldn't care.

I guess this forum gets as close to social media as it gets. I don't even do group texts. And hate when I get included in those, as well any chain e-mails. Which I promptly tell them to remove me from the reply list.
Which I have not received on in probably 15 years.

I don't think it means anything when players do this. I don't know much about all how it works.
So my question is. Do some people do this, to clear out any info or photos or comments. Then start fresh with nothing on it but new stuff?
To get rid of followers (even if temporary) or things they don't want, as it is better than trying to delete or block.

But these players don't mean it, it's to get their attention, you can't get it another way???

No, they do it every time it seems when it's contract time. You'll see said player has taken their current team off their friends list. The media loves to point this out to us, as if they player up for negotiations or the agent told the media to make this known. In the end what is it really doing? When there was no social media and fans to fans to go crazy back in the day, this was handled much differently, now you can cause a stir and it makes the player look like the villain.

We need to get you a social media account, it's 2023, you're too young not to have one!
