I think you keep it simple.......LT and put Tyler back to LG. Fewer question marks vs putting him at RT, what to do with Steele, and still need a LG.

Peters Could Be Ready Soon; But Playing Where?
Sep 13, 2022 at 09:45 AM

FRISCO, Texas. —It's possible the Cowboys will see veteran offensive lineman Jason Peters suit up for them fairly soon, but there's more evaluation to be done this week as the nine-time Pro Bowler continues to ramp up for his debut in Dallas, although the first time he takes the field will likely be to protect Cooper Rush and not a recovering Dak Prescott.

On Monday, head coach Mike McCarthy put a pin in questions about Peters' potential availability versus the incoming Bengals, and owner and general manager Jerry Jones not only mirrored that sentiment but also threw a bit of a curveball into the equation as well.

I would play Peters at LG, as I mentioned in a post not long ago...and hope for the following at some point.....

LT: Tyler Smith (I don't move him yet again, as long as he remains solid overall. He'll take some lumps, but he may be the future, whereas Tyron & Peters are not...and the team very likely lacks too much to win the division or go anywhere)

LG: Peters (given his age, girth, conditioning, etc...I would slot him here, where he can also give on field advice to the rookie and remain on his familiar left side of the line)

OC: Biadasz

RG: Martin

RT: Tyron Smith (if/when he's able to return, he moves back to where he started...and if he remains on the team, he stays there in 2023)

Top reserves: Steele, McGovern

Tough question after one game. I'd like to see how Smith does vs CIN. If Tyler will be the LT in 2023 just let him play there until he struggles than look at Peters.

If this turns into a rebuilding year at some point I'd move Peters to LG and let Tyron learn the LT spot. I don't think we see Peter's this week. I think next week he hits the lineup. He will certainly play against Philly.

When is he going to play. I was assuming he was in descent shape and would only need a few weeks.

I’m in total agreement with you. Play Peters at left tackle with Smith at LG and have a strong left side in the running game. This team desperately needs that.

Peters is a left Tackle, shift Smith to Guard. We need to see if Steele is a long-term piece at RT.

I'd keep Tyler Smith at LT and put Peter's at LG.

Older Peter's will have to deal with less speed there.

Smith is the LT of the future so might as well give him all the experience you can.

Alternate take: Unless Steele or Smith completely collapse, Peters is a depth signing for future injury insurance. McGovern could win that LG job before Peters is ready

I think you have to leave Tyler at left tackle. I liked what I saw and want to see more. It would be great to know if we have a stud left tackle by the end of the season.

Have Smith and Peters rotate each game between LG and LOT. Not knowing what the OL of the future looks like that will give Smith plenty of snaps at both positions and get him better prepared for the future.

I see what you're saying but if Peters can play week three, it would give Tyler two full games at LT. If he holds up this week like last, I think he'll be fine when we need to make the switch. My thing is getting your best 5 OLinemen on the field at their best positions. Peters is a HOF LT. Now let's get Tyler some experience at LG. Peters can still help him out and who knows, he may play even better at LG. Now you have a dominant left side.

If Tyler has another good game at LT, I imagine he'll be used at RT to replace Terence Steele. I think MM wants to see how it goes on Sunday.
