Tough call right now.

We’ll have one more week of data on how Tyler, Steele, and Farniok play and how far away McGovern is.

I think you keep it simple.......LT and put Tyler back to LG. Fewer question marks vs putting him at RT, what to do with Steele, and still need a LG.

Peters Could Be Ready Soon; But Playing Where?
Sep 13, 2022 at 09:45 AM

FRISCO, Texas. —It's possible the Cowboys will see veteran offensive lineman Jason Peters suit up for them fairly soon, but there's more evaluation to be done this week as the nine-time Pro Bowler continues to ramp up for his debut in Dallas, although the first time he takes the field will likely be to protect Cooper Rush and not a recovering Dak Prescott.

On Monday, head coach Mike McCarthy put a pin in questions about Peters' potential availability versus the incoming Bengals, and owner and general manager Jerry Jones not only mirrored that sentiment but also threw a bit of a curveball into the equation as well.

I'm not moving Tyler Smith around after he held his own in this first start. He's a left tackle by trade - started there for 3 years in college - so I'm leaving him alone.

Peters doesn't have the quickness he used to have but he can still bully people on the interior. If he's in game shape I'm putting him at LG over Farniok.

Yes please, and then I'm mauling em with Zeke to the left.

LT. Last thing you want is Peters trying to pull and hurt himself.

If you don't have a pulling guard in the NFL you are severely limiting your playbook.

He has to be a LT for a modern NFL offence to work.

Maybe Steele will improve, but maybe not

The amount of improvement that Steele needs to make isn't likely to be enough to make his presence worthwhile, imho. We'll see if the staff deems his performance good enough to keep him entrenched as a starter at RT. It might easily go either way to determine if it's in or out of the lineup. Peters could also be assigned to take over at LG, as well as at RT. He's flexible enough to do well in any of three different spots on the OL. I do believe Tyler Smith's performance at LT was likely sufficient to retain him there, if he keeps it up vs. Cincinatti. It's entirely possible that Peters won't be available until next week, anyway, no matter which of the three OL positions it may be.
