Where do you live and do you like living there?

I have looked at Washington and Oregon, but the rain there would get old eventually. I have looked at the northeast, especially Vermont and more recently, New Hampshire, but the long non-stop winters would probably be tough to deal with not growing up in it. Don't get me wrong, I love cold weather and snow, but when you are surrounded by snow for weeks and months ...
Get yourself some snowmobiles, you'll be fine.

I live in Connecticut, and yes you do!

Though I live in the New York City suburbs in a heavily wooded area. It's beautiful and compared to NY, the taxes are non-existent. I bought twice the house in Connecticut that I could buy in Westchester County NY.
That's not saying much. The area around NYC is one of the most expensive areas in the world, from what I understand. (Granted, I've never researched it, so I could be wrong about that...but I hear it a LOT.)

There are actually quite a few Cowboys fans here too, but that's pretty much anywhere. Cost of living is pretty high compared to other places, but it's still manageable if you pick the right places.
Other than Giants and Patriots, I probably see more Dallas decals and gear than any other team, including the Jets.

I live in North Hollywood. Less tourists, more artsy folk. The tourist part is 5 miles from me and over the hills of Studio City. Fun place to go, even living here, but yes, a little too hectic living there. I have friends that live out there. :)

Yes, I dream of Providence. Gorgeous. I will sell my home here at some point and move out that way and buy something really nice. I also adore Baltimore (@bkight13) and Washington DC. But Rhode Island is looking like my next home. If the boy gets into Brown, how sweet would that be!
Sounds like you like city life?

I do, but I'm done with the two season SoCal. Hardly any rain, and I adore rain. I also adore green. Our climate (SoCal's) is increasingly becoming that of the desert which is so close to us (High and Low Desert).

Rhode Island is perfect.
If you like the city, then yeah, I think you'd like Providence. Personally, I hate cities. (Especially NYC, which I have to drive a truck in about once a week.) lol
I'm a country boy, through and through.

I also love the far NE. NH, Vermont, CT, Maine. The small cities in those states that are near the Atlantic. Just, wow. Wow.

They should just burn most of New Jersey to the ground. :)
I grew up in Northern Jersey, West Milford to be precise. Beautiful town. Lived on a lake, in a log house on the edge of the State forest. Used to hike a few miles into the woods to a place on the mountain called "New York Rock", and camp there. You could see the NY skyline about 30 miles away, which was about as close as I ever wanted to be.
These days I wouldn't camp there. The bear population has exploded. Last time I was there, there were about 1300 bears in the town, and that was 10 or 15 years ago.

I guess Hartford is okay, as cities go, and maybe you should check out New London, right on the ocean. The sub base is there, so watch out for nukes, when the time comes.
You could try Bristol, if you like :espn:. It's where their HQ is.

Ugh, no way to Austin, TX. Traffic NIGHTMARE! There is no way in hell I would most to Austin.

It is bad in Austin proper but the best places to live are outside most of that mess. Besides, if someone moved there from NY, LA or some place like that, then it shouldn't be a problem. FWIW, I would never live that close to downtown either, been there and done that when I went to UT.

You call that moderate? Looks like a full blown blizzard to this southerner!
We can have snow anytime between October and May. Typically, the fall and early winter result in light snow (less than 6 inches), colder weather (20's F) followed by brillant sunshine. The late winter to early spring is a different matter. Generally, not as cold, but the one-off 1-2 feet of snow. Good exercise shovelling (although, I do have a snow blower). FWIW, my avatar was taken just before Christmas last year. Hard to beat a white Christmas

I think the most expensive area in the US is near San Francisco. Though Greenwich, CT is the most affluent city in the country.

My ex-wife's brother had a house near the beach in Narragansett, RI. He used to lend it to us on weekends sometimes. Beautiful area.

That's sweet as hell, Sam!!

I'm really excited for my late-30's/early-40's chapter of my life. We're already lining up the little one for schools on the East Coast. Brown would be a dream come true.
