Where do you think Tyrone Crawford plays on the DL?

I think we shouldn't put too many eggs in this basket.

Torn Achilles is a tough injury.

And time will tell if he's injury prone since he was pretty healthy his first year but I think when the injury occurred it wasn't even a contact drill he was doing a conditioning test or something.

If we had to play a game tomorrow, this would be our lineup, I am assuming

Selvie. RDE
Crawford. LDE
Hayden. LDT
Bass. RDT

LOL...........we actually might be worse on defense than last year, something I would have never thought possible

I agree. This is going to be a tough year for us again I'm afraid. I hope that Crawford will be a decent player for us but he hasn't shown much to this point - injury aside. We NEED to hit on a couple DL in this draft or we might set the yardage record again, topping last year's record. Without some horses up front we will be pushed around, not be able to get a pass rush without blitzing (which by the way we are not very good at) and be exposed once again. Due to poor planning we can't sign anyone decent, and if we did, we might not be able to keep some of our younger players like Dez, Tyron, etc... Our hands are tied so we might as well ride this out no matter how rough it may be.

LOL Thats a terrible lineup. I haven't been impressed with anyone of those except Selvie. Im picky because I want the best. We really need to hit it big in the draft. A 3 tech def. Tackle and a passrushing RDE to fill in for Ware. Selvie and Crawford won't cut it and to say otherwise is just fooling ourselves.

That's an NFL Europe type defensive line.

You are seeing players come back from this injury. Although there is no guarantee he ever is back to 100%. Given his age, we can all hope. But for a guy with that weight and that position, there is no guarantee.

in pre-season, before the injury, wasn't Crawford somewhat un-blockable (@ DE)? minimally, was he giving the OL trouble? I thought I read that he was even giving Smith trouble, and that is saying something....willing to see what this guy has...I am not sold that he is the savior of the defense by any stretch of the imagination, but if they get a Melton and then a few high picks at DL, then we might have something decent to work with...

Can Bass back up Crawford at LDE?

I do believe Dallas was playing him there some because he showed some position flexibility. Not sure either has what it takes to be a stud at that spot, but Dallas doesn't really have any proven studs on the line at this point.

Broaddus was saying the staff sees Crawford as a 1, which is mind boggling to me.

Yes. I can't see that at all. I think Dallas last year was just considering spots to put him. It already had its ends in Spencer and Ware and 3-techs in Ratliff and Hatcher, with Ratliff also able to play the 1 ... so I think Crawford was just being bounced around in concept. I don't think he's ever really been a serious candidate for the 1.

We need 1 stud lineman, 1 very good lineman, 1 solid lineman and 1 to just do his damn job. I get sick of people thinking you need pro bowlers at every position, the reality is if the Boys walk away with 2 good lineman at the draft then it should be easier for the others to play better.

Sorry, I have to disagree. In this 4-3, predicated on pressure from the line, you need a stud at 3-tech, a stud end and at least one more linemen who can regularly get pressure/push the pocket. You're not going to get by with only one player who regulary wreaks havoc in the backfield ... unless, of course, you considering "very good" and "solid" as players who do that.

If he shows enough quickness to get around tackles then SDE. If not then let him use his motor as a 3T.

Crawford really hasn't shown much to this point so let's tap the brakes regardless. Add in the fact that he is coming off a severe injury and I would not expect much. I hope I am wrong.

I really don't care where he plays as long as he plays and plays well.

That is the situation we find ourselves in. It's not if he returns. It's how well he plays and we need that to be at a starters level.

Ironically, we're forgetting this with Melton. SDE unless he is significantly stronger/heavier.

I think everybody is aware of that, however this is your current DL................as Risen says, its NFL Europa quality.

Now if we sign Melton and Jared Allen, it might actually be a legit DL. However, neither of those things have happened so we can only evaluate what we currently have.
